n.y.c. new york color cosmetics - metro metals collection fall 2008

N.Y.C. New York Color Cosmetics has a new collection to be released in September.

It's called the Metro Metals Collection and from what I've seen it's fabulous.

They're using the same kind of marbling we've been seeing in some high end brands (MAC and Laura Geller comes to mind). And we think that it looks adorable.

What will be the offerings come Fall?

Chroma Face Glow ($5) It's the large marbled powder pictured right. It comes in two colors, sunstone and moonstone and provides all over buildable coverage.

Marbleyes ($4) The smaller compact that reminds us both of the world from space. It'll be available in two colors, tiger's eye and aquamarine. Swirl them together for one combined color, or use the colors individually. Can be used wet or dry for different effects and looks.

Metaleyes ($5) It comes with its own little eyeliner brush, in a pot that we're loving. The two hues being offered, onyx and topaz, are both metalic-y wonderful. Topaz has a sort of bronze thing going and onyx is more of a smoky gray. Love. A creamy formula that dries fast, it's aso long-wearing...trust us on that...after applying to our hands for a color check...would not budge.

Sparklers
($4) A roll on loose metallic eye shadow. Easy to blend and layer...can go for an intense eye or a sheer wash of color. Comes in amethyst or city citrine.

Metallic Nail Paint
($3) Another fave and a fun color. Comes in molten metal a divine hue we're loving. One coat for a sheer effect, two coats for intense glossy shine.

Lip Lustre Lipstick ($3) A shimmery lipstick that hydrates your pucker. Use it by itself, or layer with gloss for a whole other look. Available shades garnet and amber.

Lip Lustre Lip Gloss ($3) Is a sheer wash of gold that smells like (we think) vanilla...sorry our allergies are acting up. It's actually really pretty and really wearable. It's available in the shade 24 KT...an answer to the Benefit Gloss? Hmmmm.

Considering everything here is each $5 or less, you can easily check out the metallic trend for a steal.

These will all be available starting in September and you can find them at stores like CVS, Target, Walmart, etc. Or try newyorkcolor.com for more info come the Fall.

Reviews are on the way!

covergirl eye enhancers...look #2

Another fabulous look from the CoverGirl webinar with Molly Stern. This one is Smoldering Forest Eyes. It's gorgeous and wearable, but still gives you a sweet jolt of color.

For the eyes, Molly used all one kits. For the first kit, she used CoverGirl Eye Enhancers 1 Kit in Brown Smolder ($3). She used a loose eyeshadow brush and applied the color to the upper eye lid and into the crease...concentrating more color at the outer corner of the lid...not a lot...just enough.

She then used a flatter eye shadow brush and applied CoverGirl Eye Enhancers 1 Kit in Kaboom Kelly to the inner corner of the upper lid up to the crease. She made sure to blend it where it met up with the Brown Smolder...so they kind of melded together gorgeously.

With a smaller eye liner brush she "smoked out" under the lower lash line with the Brown Smolder, almost all the way across.

Taking a really cute stubby eyeliner brush, she picked up CoverGirl Eye Enhancers 1 Kit in Lime Alive (a to die lime-y slightly shimmery green) and added the cutest jolt of color to the inner corner of the eye. It sounds like it wouldn't work, but the result was perfect.

To finish off the eyes, she added two coats of CoverGirl LashBlast Mascara in Brown/Black to keep the lashes more neutral and not compete with the eye shadows...definitely a softer effect.

Using a rosy blush to add a subtle wash of color to the cheeks, she finished off with CoverGirl Amazemint Lip Gloss in Freedom of Peach...an amazing sheer nude that doesn't wash you out.

Done. Gorgeous. Love. This. Look.

As always, head on over to covergirl.com for more information on products and where to purchase.

Next week...look number #3.

l'oreal paris bare naturale coupon!

We're loving that we can share this with you.

Right now, on lorealparisusa.com you can download a coupon worth $3 off any two L'Oreal Paris Bare Naturale product.

And it's good from now until August 15th, 2008!

What to buy?

Might we suggest L'Oreal Paris Bare Naturale Mascara ($10) as one of your two items?

It's new and has us both intrigued.

It's the first mineral-based mascara from L'Oreal Paris Bare Naturale. It contains 86 percent natural-origin ingredients, minerals and conditioners.

Plus, it's paraben-free and fiber-free.

It also promises to be extra gentle and go on smoothly without clumping.

You can get it in three shades...blackest black, black, and black/brown. Although it's not officially released yet, I have seen it at my local Target while there on a snack run.

Head on over to lorealparisusa.com for more details on how to get your coupon.

Happy saving!

raw minerals eye shadow trios

Along with the Raw Minerals makeup that I mentioned last week, I have also been trying out their Mineral Eyeshadow Trios ($35) in Tuscany and Sahara. And while I have used several brands of mineral makeup this is the first time I tried mineral eye shadows.

Tuscany is the pink set and Sahara is the brown set. Although, I have to admit when I first saw them I thought the opposite. Tuscany looks much darker and more brown to me than the Sahara set. And I have been using the Sahara set more. There are also 3 other colors available.

Each set contains 3 different colors that are complementary to each other. They can be worn alone or mixed together to create various looks. All of the colors are very pigmented, so a little goes a long way. They do have pretty good staying power.

The mineral eye shadows contain the same 4 key ingredients as the rest of the line of mineral makeup. The best part of the eye shadows for me is the wonderful brush. I really, really like their line of brushes. They look like they cost way more than they actually do and they work really well.

For the eye shadows I have been using the All-Over Eye Shadow Brush ($20). The compact tip with short, firm bristles is designed for effortless uniform, all-over application and layering of color. Rounded shape blends shadow seamlessly for a quick wash of color across the entire lid. Get vibrant, beautiful color in just a couple strokes.

new aveda dry remedy shampoo, conditioner, and masque

Okay...so you probably already know that I went and got some highlights to brighten up my look. You know, needed a change.

I've been doing really well, using my Pureology products, rotating in some Kerastase, and loving them. But, being we do what we do, I get a little tempted to stray a little.

These products came our way not too long ago, for us to try.

It's kind of funny when products meant for certain types of hair come in for us to check out.

Mainly because it's like we're trying not to insult the other person, but at the same time one of us is like...well this is for fine and limp hair...so...here you go. Or...hmmmm...this is for really dull and lifeless hair...I think this one's for you.

Of course we always follow it up with, but you know it's for the blog and all and...your hair does look good.

Thankfully, we both have thick skins and small egos.

Anyway...I got the chance to test out these...Aveda Dry Remedy Moisturizing Shampoo, Conditioner, and Treatment Masque. Can I just say that I am so glad that I'm the one who got to test them?

Love them.

I adore everything about them...how they smell, how they make my hair feel, and how gorgeous they make my hair look.

Considering that on top of aforementioned highlights, I've also been taking Little L to the pool...with these, my hair feels great.

The Aveda Dry Remedy Moisturizing Shampoo ($24) comes in a tube, which is different than the ones that I'm used to using. It's also a thicker consistency, that kind of freaked me out the first time I saw it. But it lathers up great and washes out easily. I also noticed that I needed less because it was so thick and rich.

The Moisturizing Conditioner ($24) is phenomenal and hydrates like crazy...but, it still manages to rinse out well, so you're not dealing with yucky build up. And it has the same divine floral aroma as the shampoo, along with the brilliant hint of vanilla. (My definite suggestion is to use it on your ends only if your hair is on the fine side though. Too much and it'll weigh down those delicate tresses.)

Because of both of these, I was able to exit the shower, towel dry my hair and blow dry. No static, no feeling of dryness, just gorgeous manageable hair. Love.

Aveda's Dry Remedy Treatment Masque ($26) has been the least expensive masque I've tried lately (although I've been meaning to check out a certain drugstore one - have to get around to that soon) and it's fabulous.

It's rich and really feels like it gets in there and does it's job. I used it right after shampooing and would let it sit while I finished up my shower. Then rinsed at the end.

After drying, the results were awesome. Gorgeous soft hair that looked and felt hydrated.

According to Kiehl's this little gem is said to instantly improve dry hair up to 63% when used in conjunction with the rest of the system...and I'd say they were right.

Now I'm, going to be throwing these three into rotation as well (I'm going to have to come up with a graph or something to keep track of all of the shampoos and conditioners though).

With the Aveda, because they are so rich and hydrating, they are something that I'll probably use twice a week or so...more so when it's colder out and my hair is screaming for some tlc.

To purchase and to find out where to buy, head on over to aveda.com. They're also giving away a free treatment comb ($10 value) and celebrity stylist tips with every Dry Remedy Treatment Kit sold (while supplies last). See the site for more details.

these are a few of our favorite bronzers...part 2

In what seems like an eternity ago, we brought you a few of our favorite bronzers that were divine. Then we promised to bring you their drugstore counterparts the next week.

Yeah...that didn't quite happen.

All we can say is, we're sorry. Schedules, mommy duties, and general forgetfulness happens.

Are we still friends?

Good.

Anyway...this time, we're bringing you bronzers that we adore and come in under $15.

Let's get started shall we?

Physicians Formula Organic Wear Bronzer
($14) comes in six fabulous shades and has a sheer yet buildable cooverage that delivers a great natural faux glow. We're also loving the eco-chic packagingand the fact that it's organic. Plus, considering Christine is definitely on the fair side...it compliments her skin tone without making her look harsh. Perfect.

N.Y.C. New York Color Sweet Cheeks Bronzer ($5) comes in two shades (Bronx Beauty and Brooklyn Babe) is the least expensive of the bunch, comes with the most adorable sun pattern on the bronzer itself, and delivers a gorgeous, golden-y, glow-y look that works. We heart this one.

Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired by Carmindy Sun Glow Powder Bronzer ($13) is another bronzer that allows you to customize your bronze glow. It goes on smoothly and contains skin conditioning ingredients to make your face feel great. It's available in two shades...Spring and Summer.

Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired by Carmindy Sheerest Cream Bronzer
($12) automatically earns its spot because of the fact that it's a cream bronzer. It's great for believable streak free color that melts into your skin to deliver a gorgeous faux tan. Plus it's available in three shades.

Max Factor ColorGenius Bronzer ($9) is the latest in the ColorGenius family from Max Factor. We love it's loose powder consistency and the gorgeous subtle shimmer you get once you apply it. Plus it contains minerals that are hypoallergenic and won't clog pores. It comes in two shades, Sunset and Sunkissed. We're loving the Sunkissed for darker skin tones.

The best part, is that all of these can be found in any mass market retailer like Target and CVS.

guido for redken hair trends for fall 2008...intense shine

Who doesn't love shiny, healthy looking hair?

These looks are great for going out or heading to work for a sleek, polished, and fabulous look.

Here is Guido's tips on creating the Intense Shine looks seen at the Fall shows...

Shine returns to the runway in full force, after last season's parade of ultra-matte textures. Hair stayed close to the scalp, in sedate slicked-back styles with a lacquered finish.

TIPS:

• To get the slick finish seen at Prada: Blow-dry hair straight, then smooth Hardwear 16 Super Strong Gel from roots to ends (applying gel to dry hair creates a lacquered effect). Pull hair into a bun and apply Glass 01 Smoothing Serum for
extra sleekness.

• For a blow-dry with extreme shine, mist on Forceful 23 Super Strength Finishing Spray section-by-section and blow-dry hair with a Mason Pearson brush. Reapply the spray to your finished style for a sleek, plasticized effect.

• Finish any style with a mist of Vinyl Glam 02 Mega Shine Spray—it adds extreme shine without weighing down fine hair.

Try redken.com for more information and to find out where to purchase the suggested products.

dermelect microdermabrasion 2-3 facial reveal

I have never had microdermabrasion, even though I have been oh so intrigued.

I guess what's stopping me are four things:

1) It ain't cheap.
2) Doesn't it leave your face all red and raw?
3) It would require major planning on my part to find a babysitter for Little L
4) It ain't cheap.

The great thing is that you can do a sort of microdermabrasion in your own home. I've seen a lot of scrubs like this on the market and I had a chance to test one recently.

This is Dermelect Microdermabrasion 2-3 Facial Reveal ($42). While it's not exactly like the machine in a derm's office...it does contain corundum crystals which are purported to deliver similar results.

To me it seemed like just a very fine grained scrub. You can use this 2-3 times a week, waiting at least two days between each use. Use it on clean, damp skin and scrub your face in small circles all around...as you do this you'll definitely feel it working. Then leave it on for 2-3 minutes and rinse it off.

The result I had was glow-y skin that felt smoother. It promises that over time (and with regular use) my skin will look more even toned and radiant.

Another thing I've been doing is using the extra bit of leftover scrub (after I apply it to my face) and using it on my hands....like I'm washing them...and then rinsing it off. Once I follow up with a moisturizer it's Welcome to Soft Hands-ville.

You can use this on other areas of your body too and I'm thinking about trying it on the backs of my arms to try and help with the little bit of Keratosis Pilaris that's going on there...thanks heredity!

I must say that it is a really great scrub, but definitely a little on the splurge side for a juiced up scrub. It is geared towards all skin types, but I would think that if you have really sensitive skin...you might want to test it out first.

One thing is definitely for sure, you should always follow up your scrubbing with a good moisturizer.

Dermelect makes one called Rapid Repair Facial Moisturizer ($38). It's definitely on the rich end of the cream scale, so if you have dry skin your skin should drink it up. My skin tends to be on the combination side, but in the Winter I normally have some dryness...so I'm putting this one aside until then.

If you're curious about the rest of the Dermelect line, check out their site at dermelect.com.

kiehl's ultimate thickening shampoo and strong-hold gel

We love Kiehl's products here at Beauty in Real Life. So when they up and create more products for us to enjoy, we just have to share in the Kiehl's-ocity.

Kiehl's Ultimate Thickening Shampoo
($18 and pictured left) relies upon the benefits of an antioxidant-enriched formula infused with a blend of thickening polymers and an Omega-6 essential fatty acid derivative to fortify and texturize thinning hair, without weighing it down. The result is a thoroughly cleansing, gently effective shampoo that helps reinforce hair strands for a noticeably thicker, healthy-looking appearance and improved scalp coverage.

Strong-Hold Styling Gel
($13.50) utilizes a combination of high performance resins and natural ingredients for an alcohol-free, super-hold styling gel that provides extra definition with long-lasting control and manageability. This new gel is the strongest-hold gel in Kiehl’s Stylist Series.

Kiehl's Ultimate Thickening Shampoo and Strong-Hold Styling Gel, will be available at Kiehl’s Since 1851 stores and www.kiehls.com in August.

5 minutes, 5 questions with Petra Strand

We bring to you our next installment of 5 minutes, 5 questions with one of the founders of PIXI cosmetics, Petra Strand.

Can you tell us a little about yourself and PIXI cosmetics?

I have been a makeup artist for over 22 years. I am Swedish by birth but have lived for years in England and I now call Santa Barbara home. I am a mother of 2, a wife and creative director of PIXI Cosmetics. I love my job and equally I love downtime with my family. Beauty and makeup is my passion and PIXI was created from a desire to use professionally and personally products that just flatter the skin but have skin treats in every product so that there is a sense that you are not just covering but in a long term plan actually enhancing and nourishing your skin.

All of the products are just amazing. Is there one product in particular that you think every woman should have?

Thank you, so much care and attention goes into the range, so that over the last 9 years it has grown organically rather than from a marketing/PR perspective, everything is a "HERO" product to me. .....having said that if I found myself on that island deserted, in my hand I would hope to find...well,something I am so proud to have worked on, it is the Brightening Primer - it contains pure pearl powder that is an amino acid so it helps strengthen the skin. This primer has hydrating ans soothing proprieties and an amazing light reflective and brightening effect on tired and lacklustre skint and works amazingly as a pre-base for foundations or on it's own for fabulous skin. It has a soft, lilac pearl tone that is great even around the eyes to cut darkness. I literally use it everywhere.

Can you give us a quick five minute face for daytime in the Summer months?

Illuminating Tint & Conceal
- this is a fantastic base, that has your daily moisturizer, spf 20 with a skin flattering tint, that has illuminating properties for a slightly "airbrushed looking complexion" and in the tip is a skin perfecting concealer in a co-coordinating shade for dark circles and blemishes - plus it literally takes seconds. The Lid & Line - the lazy girl's new best friend: it is an instant polished looking eye make up that has a liner, powder shadow and smudger all in 1, so easy to get perfect peepers with this product. An instant perk me up would be achieved using the Lash Boosting Mascara in Blackest Blue - not only does this define the lashes but the intense black/sapphire pigment makes the whites of the eyes super bright making you look instantly "awake". Next, our famous PIXI Cheek Gel on the cheeks for that soft burst of colour, use finger tips to work into the complexion an oil free gel with oodles of aloe vera for that skin treating cheek colour and finish with a Rose Lip Treat for a nude and natural colour that nourishes your lips for hours with a luxurious blend of plant, rose waxes and extract. If you want to add a little more warmth for for a light bronzing with a Bronze Booster to add that soft, radiant warmth. This look is fresh, subtle, fuss free and takes literally seconds.

What three beauty products can you not live without?

A great tinted moisturizer, mascara, and blusher - with those 3 must have I can be ready for anything.

What was the best piece of beauty advice you've ever received?

That makeup should be about having fun,"Gilding the Lily", you know what....you make a mistake you can wash off and start again but always look after your skin.

A big thank you to Petra for taking time out of her schedule to answer our questions. If you are lucky enough to travel over to London, definitely check out the store. If it's not in your travel plans you can check out the awesome line of products online at pixibeauty.com and sephora.com. I know there are several items Jenn and I have our eyes on.

beauty buys under $10 - l'oreal vive pro glossy volume

Jenn doesn't like to buy drugstore shampoos and conditioners whereas, up until about a year ago that was pretty much all I bought.

None of them ever worked really well (except my John Frieda) and I have a whole shelf in my linen closet full of partially used shampoo bottles to prove it.

I have tried the L'Oreal line of hair care before and I was not too impressed (2 different kinds live in my closet) but I did give this new one a try. It's their new Vive Pro Glossy Volume ($4.99), which is for fine hair.

It is supposed to add airy volume and glossy shine to hair without weighing it down.

The verdict....it smells phenomenal. I find myself trying to find reasons to turn my head really fast to have my hair sweep over my face. Silly I know, but it smells that good. Was it glossy volume? It did add volume. Not to toot my own horn, but my hair is pretty glossy to begin with, so I didn't notice much of a difference there. It didn't make my hair as soft as some other brands I have tried, but for $5 a bottle this worked pretty well.

If you are looking for a new shampoo and conditioner for under $10 or for about $10 total I would give this one a try. It's available just about everywhere you find L'Oreal products.

5 minutes, 5 questions with the stylists at the eiji salon

The Eiji Salon (pronounced a-gee), is a gorgeous retreat on the fabulous Madison Avenue.

The salon's owner, Eiji Yamane (pictured), is Japanese-born and famous for his "dry-cut" technique. Which, we've heard, is the best way to cut hair.

His services, as well as the services of his majorly talented staff, are sought after by many celebrities and New Yorkers in the know.

We think that it was pretty amazing that all of the stylists took the time to sit down and answer our questions.

So without further ado...

What is the hottest hairstyle for Summer?

Whatever shape or length, it is very easy, casual hair. Lots of layers, product, and air dried.

Is the bob truly over? Either way, what can we do to update it if we're in a rut?

The bob will never ever be over!! It has been in style since the 1920s. It should be updated for these times—2008/ 2009. Change the lengths of the bob. According to the type of woman, it should be clean with a lot of layers OR shaggy at ends w/ layering in the proper way to create shape and, of course, bangs—going off to one side!

What celebrity has the most requested hairstyle (in your salon)?

Madonna’s lazy curls- for long hair

Victoria Beckham, Katie Holmes—the bob.

Keira Knightly (when she had short hair)

What would you say is the one mistake most women make when it comes to their hair?

Keeping it the same for years and years and never updating it. No matter what style, you could always keep the same style but update it.

What one product should every woman leave your salon with?

Eiji Water Be One Grace (which is a treatment you would apply to towel dried hair before styling. It's their most popular product and sells out fast - b.i.r.l.)

Considering while checking out a couple of reviews on this salon, they raved on about the decor, the atmosphere, the charming staff...and the meticulous attention to detail they use while cutting hair.

We're not talking quick shampoo, cut, and style. We're talking relaxing shampoo and head massage, blow dry and flat iron first, then precision cut. A process that takes at least an hour total!

We are so moving to NYC.

If you're curious and want to book an appointment with the talented staff at Eiji, head on over to eiji-newyork.com or call (212) 838-3454.

la mer the hydrating infusion

For the La Mer lover in all of us, The Hydrating Infusion ($95) is going to be the next product to make us fall head over heels in love.

When used in conjunction with their Creme de la Mer, it's said to visibly reduce the signs of aging.

Their serum also incorporates naturally occurring minerals from the sea floor such as iron, manganese and copper to help skin stimulate collagen synthesis and keep it looking vibrant. Vitamins C, B5, B12 and Magnesium provide further replenishment as they fortify the skin’s outer layer. Magnetized tourmaline gives an added boost to all of these powerful ingredients.

Considering that one of us loves La Mer and is trying to introduce the other cruise loving one to all of its fabulous goodness, this is definitely something that we are going to be checking out and reviewing.

The only unfortunate part, is that you'll have to wait until September to get your hands on one of these.

So...we'll put this down as soon to be available at Saks Fifth Avenue, select Nordstroms, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, and lamer.com.

natural beauty buys under $10...aubrey organics and jason body lotions

I've been on a natural kick lately.

Maybe it's because I've been growing out my hair (and totally crushing on some of the styles we've been posting for Fall).

Maybe it's the heat of Summer that finds me reaching for my loose peasant tops and shorts.

Maybe it's because I've been listening to a little to much Classic Rock on Sirius Radio lately.

Either way, I love finding new products that are earthy and organic and work them into the rest of my beauty arsenal.

Two I'm loving?

Aubrey Organics Ultimate Moist Unscented Hand and Body Lotion ($9.95) is what a lotion should be...rich and moisturizing.

If you took it out of its simple packaging and placed into a fancy-schmancy container from a department store, you'd have a hard time telling the difference.

It's that good.

The bonus is that it's made with all natural ingredients like: white camellia oil, sunflower oil, macadamia nut oil, coconut fatty acid cream base, and Aubrey's Preservative (an all natural preservative invented by Aubrey Hampton - it consists of citrus seed extract and vitamins a,c, and e).

The other thing that's utterly fabulous about this lotion? No scent.

Seriously. None.

Great if you're the kind of person who has sensitivity to lotions with fragrances and great for the person who doesn't want her perfume to clash with a scented lotion (aka me).

I mixed it up with my favorite but expensive Jo Malone body creme (in Grapefruit natch) and I'm in love. No clashing with the gorgeous scent, and I barely used any of my Jo Malone (thanks Janelle for that brilliant tip - btw her fave lotion to blend is Chanel Chance).

And my skin felt smooth and soft, no trace of dryness and no goopy-slippery mess.

Another great thing?

Aubrey Organics makes this lotion in a couple of other scents...Passion Flower and Green Tea and Rosemary Mint. They also make another lotion I'm loving that's scented with a gorgeous scent called Morning Meadow...the best part is it's also SPF 15. I'll definitely be putting that into heavy rotation on days when I'm just running around town.

Moving on to lotion number 2...JASON Apricot Hand and Body Lotion ($8 srp).

Made with certified natural ingredients with names that you can actually pronounce like: green tea extract, apricot oil, almond oil, and aloe vera.

It comes in eight different and natural scents...but the Apricot is divine. Smelling exactly like the fruit, it reminds me of Summer.

Plus, it moisturizes like a dream and absorbs quickly so your hands aren't leaving lotion trails on everything they touch.

Yuck.

Another fave of mine from JASON?

Their JASON Lavender 70% Organic Hand and Body Therapy Anti-Aging Formula ($8.26).

I'm normally not a fan of lavender...I'm definitely picky when it comes to that scent, but this one is amazing. To me it just has a clean scent that I adore.

I actually have the tube sitting next to my computer as I write and will apply as needed, just so I can smell in all of its lavender yummy goodness.

The great thing, is that it contains natural ingredients that work to keep your skin looking young and it seriously makes my hands feel marvelously soft and touchable. Love.

If you're interested in checking these out for yourself, check out your local health food store, or try online at jason-natural.com and aubrey-organics.com.

marimekko for avon eye and face palettes

I'm about to utter a phrase I never thought that I would say in my entire life...I'm so loving Avon right now.

Yes...it's true.

No offense to you die hard Avon fans out there...I'm not judging you at all.

I've just never said to myself Hey I need to find myself an Avon rep and stat!

Until now.

Avon and Marimekko have collaborated on four new colorful palettes that are soon to be released.

Who is Marimekko you ask?

Well...they are a Finnish textile and clothing design company that was founded in 1951 and are known for their cute/adorable patterned fabrics that you just have to immerse yourself in.

For example?

Check out the I-gotta-have-it dress to the right.

See what I mean? Adorable.

Anyway...they are teaming up with (wait for it) Avon and coming out with two drool-worthy palettes.

First up is Marimekko for Avon All Over Face Palette ($10).

It's just too unbelievably darling for words. They manage to be both I-can't-touch-them-they-are-so-gorgeous and let-me-at-them at the same time.

They aren't available just yet, but they will be available in these two choices...Poppy Bloom and Poppy Bouquet.

Considering they are only $10 each, you could buy them both and be in Poppy heaven.

Don't stop drooling yet people...check out their eye shadow palettes...

I mean...really...Avon is just starting to freak me out with their fabulousness.

These are just to die, are they not?

Considering that these are only $8 a piece, you could create a ton of looks for only $16 total.

Again with the poppies and the same names for each...and are you not just loving the bottom right offering in all of its blue-y and lavender-y goodness?

I'm literally schvetzing here.

As I said before, they are not available as of yet on avon.com, but should be making an appearance soon.

If you are going totally banoodles over them (as am I sweeties) I suggest that you high tail it over there and add yourself to their Notify Me box for each of them. That way, when they do come out, you'll be the first to know!

bobbi brown new metallics for fall 2008

More great news on the Bobbi Brown front...she's releasing some great metallic looks for eyes and lips!

First up...Lip Color ($22) tell us those aren't gorgeous. Of course it's the same smooth, creamy, and hydrating formula as her other lip sticks.

These also offer high-shine emollients, light-reflective pearls, and a medium coverage.

The new metallic offerings are: baby peach, kir, pretty pink, twilight pink, beige gold, gilded pink, silver haze, ruffle, vintage, rose, ruby, berry, dusk, raspberry, brown, and plum

They will be available online at bobbibrowncosmetics.com and in stores in September 2008.

Our suggestion?

While they aren't on there yet, check out neimanmarcus.com before then...they always get the jump start on her collections.

Case in point?

Her new Metallic Eye Shadows ($20). They won't be available till August at most Bobbi Brown counters and online, but they are available online right now at neimanmarcus.com!

Here are the new colors being offered: champagne quartz, velvet plum, sage, forest, burnt sugar, rock star, midnight, cognac, navajo, pink pearl, golden peach, gold dust, iced blue, mint, lavender, brown stone, and java.

Plus they come in her new cute little square cases, which they can be removed from easily and placed in her new palette systems.

Perfect.

cruise inspired looks for summer 2008 - weekend chic

Well...Christine and her hubby have already left for their vacation.

Yours truly is stuck here holding down the fort, while she gets ready to hit the high seas.

I wonder if she'll want to set a course for a new adventure? Or if she'll see an open smile on a friendly shore?

Come on...you know you want to sing it.

The love boat-ah...soon will be making another run..the love boat-ah...promises something for ev-eryone.

Yeah...I've been singing that song all week in my head. Thanks random bursts of 70's television theme songs.

Anyway...I guess that we still have time for one more cruise inspired look.

This will work for anything outdoors. It's also something that's great for going out around town, or watching Big L play in his first softball game with some of the guys from work.

I'm dusting off the first aid kit as we speak.

Sorry. I digress. Where was I?

Oh yeah...I kept the look easy and comfortable with a cute t-shirt and khaki shorts. If you plan on hitting the beach, or are planning on being around some water...be prepared with a cute bathing suit in a bold color. Plus it'll look adorable peeking out of your tee.

Whether or not you go with the suit, go for some color on your feet. We both love Converse shoes, although (truth be told) they are not the most comfortable shoes for doing some major walking. If that's the case, go for a more comfy pair.

To protect your tresses and your eyes, the adorable not-a-baseball-cap and aviators are the way to go.

Another must?

Sunscreen with a high SPF that you reapply often. A good one to try is Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock with SPF 55, 70, or 85 ($15).

The reason why it's fabulous?

It contains Helioplex for unbeatable UVA protection. It works better to help prevent damaging UVA rays from penetrating deep under skin’s surface. Plus, it's not all greasy and absorbs quickly...leaving your skin soft, not slippery.

I would also suggest using a separate sunscreen for your face. One that does double duty is Neutrogena Age Shield Face Sunblock SPF 70. ($12)

Why is it so great?

Well, for starters, it has a seriously high SPF. It also contains Helioplex , it's sheer, and it's fragrance free...a bonus for sensitive skin. Plus it contains a blend of powerful anti-oxidants to combat free radicals that accelerate the signs of aging. Uh...wow.

Being you're going to be running around, who wants a full face of makeup? Especially because it will probably slide off your face as you sweat. Yuck.

I would either use a little bit of tinted moisturizer to even everything out, or just spot conceal around your nose and under your eyes.

Whichever you decide to do, you could still use a little pop of color on your cheeks. If anything it'll give you a nice rosy glow.

Our fave?

Tarte Cheek Stain in Flush ($28). It delivers that phenomenally perfect, natural looking flush. It contains anti-oxidants and contains ingredients that fight the signs of aging.

The best part? It smells like raspberries. Yum.

Lastly, I do know that Christine will be flying to Puerto Rico to meet up with her cruise ship. This set will be perfect for the flight (it's FAA approved sizes) and after...she could throw these in her bag.

Noah's Naturals Natural Beauty Travel Kit ($10) contains 1 oz of Grapefruit Shower Gel, 1 oz of their famous Grapefruit Body Lotion, .17 oz Hand Salve, and one Peppermint Lip Balm.

The Shower Gel and Body Lotion, smell exactly like the sorta-kinda-sweet-sorta-kinda-tart combo of a just peeled grapefruit. Love. The gel provides a rich and creamy lather, that leaves behind it's citrusy scent. The lotion is infused with shea butter, jojoba seed oil, and contains extracts of lavender, chamomile, and geranium. Everything combined, helps to moisturize your skin while sinking in easily.

The Hand Salve comes in a tin and has a thicker consistency...hence the word salve in the title. It's great for hands that are chapped, or for cuticles that are in need of dire rescue.

Our favorite of the kit is the Pepermint Lip Balm. It brings to mind Chapstick that's been kicked up a notch. It contains major ingredients like: almond oil, aloe vera, vitamin e, beeswax, sunflower, avocado, candelilla, rosemary, and cucumber...just to name a few. And it smells like peppermints. And it leaves your lips tingly after you apply it. Sweet.

The best part is that (except for the Tarte) almost all of the beauty products can be found at Walmart, Target, or other mass retailers. For more information on each, head on over to neutrogena.com, tartecosmetics.com, and noahsnaturals.com.

m lab body treatment cream

We love splurges here at b.i.r.l....really...just ask our husbands.

Just don't ask them when they're doing the bills and trying to figure out why a lip gloss costs $30.

And why we needed three of them.

Yeah...we can't answer that one.

Here's a product that would really have us doing a lot of explaining...M LAB Body Treatment Cream.

Why would we have that much explaining to do?

Um...it's $185.

So...uh...yeah...it's definitely a major splurge in the body cream department.

The container alone looks expensive. It's like one of those boutiques you see in a tony mall that has like three outfits in the entire store. Simple, but oh so chic.

So why should you try it?

Well, this treatment cream consists of a fusion of peptides, exfoliants, and hydrators that help promote collagen and elastin production, smooth and brighten skin tone, and provide long lasting moisture. It also boasts 55% clinically active ingredients.

So clearly, this ain't no ordinary cream...which makes us want it even more.

To add to the exclusivity of the brand, you can only find it in two places...Harrods London and mlabonline.com.

We'll be reviewing this soon...so stay tuned!

shobha ingrown relief lotion

Okay. If you are a guy and you are reading this...you need to leave the room for a minute.

Seriously...just go.

Is he gone?

Good.

Okay ladies, this is your answer to your little ingrown problem.

Don't look at me like that. You know it happens. It's a fact of life for most of us. You shave. You wax. And bam...there they are.

Not cool.

Especially considering it's the sensitive skin that surrounds your...um...va...um...your hoo-ha okay?

Being it's still Summer and you're bound to make an appearance in a bathing suit of some sort, you're going to want to try Shobha Ingrown Relief Lotion ($22).

All you have to do is apply it once a day at night for minor bumps and twice a day for the major ones.

That's all I did. I did the twice a day thing (okay THAT was too much information) and after about three days I noticed a difference.

Much better.

It does contain glycolic acid, which is a great exfoliator...but it also contains moisturizing ingrediants with leave your skin feeling smooth.

One thing that's important to note is that you should wait 48 hours after any hair removal, before you use it...I'm guessing it's because your skin is more sensitive right after that.

Shobhathreading.com
is also having an introductory sale on this right now. If you purchase one Ingrown Relief Lotion, you'll automatically save $5! So instead of $22, you'll pay only $17!

june jacobs cooling and soothing masque

I love going to spas.

Seriously, if I was a rich woman, I'd build a spa in my mansion and go to it everyday.

Right now, I'll just settle for 20 minutes of uninterrupted time in the bathroom.

Okay...we're being realistic here...so...how about 15 minutes?

Just me, a tub full of hot bubbly water, some great magazines (although, can someone teach me the trick to not getting them wet while I'm in there), some plinky-plunky spa music, and this.

This is June Jacobs Cooling and Soothing Masque ($56) and it's a little slice of heaven in a jar.

First off it smells amazingly like the best citrus-y lemon-y smell that I have ever smelled in my entire life. I am not kidding you. I literally want to drench myself in it's scent.

The consistency of it gets even better...like the inside of a lemon meringue pie.

It's described as being ultra-gentle and made for all skin types. In fact, it contains fresh botanicals and age-fighting anti-oxidants, along with special anti-inflammatory (natural) extracts that help make your skin look and feel it's best.

One suggestion on the jar is to put the mask in the refrigerator for a little bit to enhance the cooling aspect. Boy, did it ever!

I loved how it felt when I put it on. Long after the initial cold from being in the fridge wore off, the mask still continued to cool and soothe my skin. I left it on for about 15 minutes or so and rinsed it off with warm water. After, my skin felt hydrated, clean, and refreshed...even a little glowy.

I followed it up with my regular moisturizer and eye cream and hit the sack. The next day, my skin still looked fabulous.

Perfect.

Try junejacobs.com for more information and to find out how to purchase.

beauty buys under $10 - olay body age transform body creme serum

Here is a fabulous creme that can do what the big boys can do, for a lot less money.

Olay Body Age Transform Body Creme Serum ($9) sells for under $10 and kicks serious moisturizing patootie.

I've been using it daily as an all-over moisturizer for the past week or so and it definitely provides hydration to my skin without being greasy...it sinks right in. I also notice a subtle shimmer that's a really nice plus.

I like it because it doesn't cost a lot of money and comes in a nice 10 oz pump bottle, so it's really easy to use. I've also been rubbing it into my cuticles every time I use it and I swear they aren't looking as dry lately.

With continuous use, I should start to see newer, more elastic, and more even toned skin.

I could live with that.

They also sell one with SPF 15. That would be great for a daily moisturizer come Fall...when you aren't in the sun for too long.

A bonus?

I can pick this up in any Target, Walmart, grocery store, CVS, Walgreens, and any other mass market retailer.

Head on over to olay.com for more information.

covergirl eye enhancers...look #1

It's official...we're so crushing on Molly Stern. We had a chance to sit in on a webinar featuring the phenomenal Molly and watched (live) as she created three looks using pieces of the new collection from CoverGirl!

Remember those CoverGirl Eye Enhancers that we sneak peeked a while back? The ones with the crazy color combinations? Well Molly took those palettes and created some gorgeous wearable day looks that would actually work in the real world.

First up is the Dazzling or Blazing Eye look. Starting off with the CoverGirl Eye Enhancers 3 Kit in Dazzling Metallics ($4).

Using the coppery shade and a big eyeshadow brush (try MAC Cosmetics 213 Fluff Brush), work it into the crease and bring it down toward the outside of the upper lid. Then flip the brush over and pick up some of the buttery yellow shade and work that onto the lid. Go back in and touch up the copper a little if needed.

For the next step, take a flat eyeliner brush (try the 263 Small Angle Brush) and wet it a little. Pick up the black color and line the upper lash line with it...make sure to soften it with your finger. Think soft and diffused, not strong and bold.

Get another one of your eyeliner brushes (try the 231 Small Shader Brush) and add some of the copper shade beneath your lower lashes for a smokey effect.

Finish off the eyes with a couple of coats of CoverGirl Lash Blast Mascara in Black and your eyes are done.

For the cheeks, she actually used the pink eyeshadow from the CoverGirl Eyehancers 3 Kit in Firecracker ($4)!

Just grab your favorite blush brush (like the 116 Blush Brush) and apply to the apples of your cheeks. Use a light hand...your eyes are the center of attention here.

For the final dose of oomph, take your lip brush (try the 316 Lip Brush) and apply your Amazemint Lip Gloss in Red Riot. It's a gorgeous shade and one of our faves.

That's it...a fabulous look on the cheap!

Just to make it easier for you, we've included the actual sketch that Molly did for the look we've explained here. Click on the picture above to enlarge.

Stay tuned for look number two...Caribbean Eyes!

Hey guys!

I know...I know...we're still asking for some survey responses...are you in?

Great!

We're working on some things here at b.i.r.l. and we could use some help from our readers...100 of them to be exact.

So far only 30 of you have responded...good..but, we'd love to finish what we've started.

Would you mind taking a short survey that we've put together?

It really won't take up a lot of your time at all...you could be done in under 5 minutes...maybe even less.

These would really help provide a little feedback for our blog.

If you're interested in taking part in the survey...click here.

When you're done, be sure to come back and visit us again.

Thanks for the help!

yes...thank you...we'll take ten - skinceuticals phloretin cf

If this stuff even does half of what it claims to do...consider us sold.

This is SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF ($150). It's pricey. Very pricey.

But it definitely has us intrigued.

It declares that after the first use you will start to notice results.

There is a ton of scientific language here that just goes completely over our heads, but the gist of it is that it prevents and corrects existing damage by accelerating cell turnover and boosting your skin's support system.

The result?

Your skin will become more youthful, firm, and radiant.

Hmmmm...

Maybe our husbands wouldn't mind brown bagging it for a while...you think?

If you head over to skinceuticals.com, you can enter for a chance to win one of these for yourself. Ten lucky winners will each receive one bottle free. Click on over for all the details!

almost powder, lash power and superbalm

Almost Powder, Lash Power and Superbalm....these are a few of my favorite things....from Clinique.

As Jenn has mentioned I am getting ready to sail the seas this weekend with the hubby and my mission for the last month has been to figure out how in the world to bring all of my makeup essentials without having to bring a separate suitcase to hold it all. Especially now that you have to pay for every bag you check on a plane. Almost Powder($22.50) has made the cut, first off because I don't have to put it in the liquid ziploc going through airport security, and second because it is so easy to apply and it stays all day long and makes my skin feel fantastic. And it has SPF 15 and antioxidants.

My second fave from Clinique is the new Lash Power Mascara ($14). I really wanted to try this out before the cruise to see if it really works through humidity, rain, tears, what have you. And it does, nothing takes this stuff off except warm water and a cotton pad. A side note, it takes some getting used to when removing, it can go all over your face if you are too aggressive when wiping it off the lashes. The page on this mascara on clinique.com shows you how to remove it, and makeup removers will not take this off either. Just water...warm water. I haven't decided which of my mascaras get to make the trip but this is in the running since I know it's not going anywhere. This would be a good one for the days we are on the plane getting to and from the cruise. I don't know if I would use it during the trip since it's not waterproof, I tested this out last week at our community pool. It didn't run down my face but my lashes all stuck together. Plus, do I really need mascara on to go snorkeling? I haven't decided yet.

And my latest purchase, a big thank you to Rob at Saks in Tyson's Galleria - if you need Clinique and are in the Tyson's area go see him - he's wonderful. Anyhoo, back to my acquisition of not 1 but 2 Superbalm Moisturizing Glosses($13.50) in Cocoa and Guava. I love these. I think I have worn one of them almost every day since I bought them a couple weekends ago. These are definitely coming with me. They are just the right amount of color and shine. They are lip balm plus gloss. And they definitely moisturize dry lips.

Head on over to your nearest Clinique counter or clinique.com and check these out for yourselves, you won't be disappointed.

clinique fall 2008...modern matte

Clinique's new look for Fall 2008 is simply to die.

The Modern Matte Color Collection is compiled of new Colour Surge Eye Shadow Stay Matte, Hi Impact Lip Colour SPF 15, Defining Liner for Lips, and new Blushwear Cream Stick.

For starters, the new Colour Surge Eye Shadow Stay Matte ($18) is to be available in these gorgeous shades: French Vanilla, Sable, Chocolate Chip, Martini, Stone Violet, Dark Denim, Slate, Night Plum, and Midnight.

The matte texture is definitely a texture that women of all ages can work. It flatters without being glittery and delivers a smooth appearance to the eye area.

Love.

Clinique's High Impact Lip Colour SPF 15 ($14) is making us change our minds about lipstick. Available in these sweet shades: Go Fig, Rosette, and Plum Nude...we're reliving our past love for wearable purplish-brown tones...but in a good way.

It has a long-wearing, smooth, and hydrating formula, all while protecting your lips from the sun's rays...both UVA and UVB.

Marvelous.

New Defining Liner for Lips ($14) is going to be seen in three shades: Cider, Pomegranate, and Sugared Fig. It offers a built in sharpener (great for travel and on the go application) and a long-wearing formula to boot. The pencil is a must for preventing dreaded lip stick feathering.

Last...our fave...Blushwear Cream Stick ($19). Available in three fabulous shades: Rosy Blush, Shy Blush, and Very Blush. We're in heaven with all of the blush-y goodness they are promising. We're big fans of the stick blush formula and love it for it's delivery of a natural, healthy looking flush.

Love. Love. Love.

All will be available at Clinique counters and on clinique.com for sure come August. Or, you can head over to neimanmarcus.com and order right now.

We'll be offering more details on the collection (and hopefully some reviews) as soon as possible! Stay tuned!

ecotools and bright eyes

Here is the second runway look from ecoTOOLS. This look features brightly colored eyes from the Derek Lam show.

ecoTOOLS is an environmentally-friendly line of makeup brushes that will put you one step closer to attaining catwalk-worthy looks without breaking the bank. Below is one of the favorite trends to come down the runway and tips on how to use ecoTOOLS brushes to make it your own.

To translate this neon trend to real life, choose slightly more muted tones and pair them with a more subtle lip color. This look can be achieved with the ecoTOOLS Eye Shading Brush ($3.99). The soft bristles apply shadow evenly and lightly, so highly-pigmented colors, like yellow, can be easily blended. Using the ecoTOOLS Powder Brush ($7.99), dust your entire face with a loose, translucent powder to create an even, matte look. Also key to this statement-making styling is a strong brow. Use the Lash and Brow Groomer ($2.99) to comb hairs into place and create the perfect frame for your vibrant eye!

ecoTOOLS products can be found at select Walgreens, Kmart and Ulta stores or online at eco-tools.com.

estee lauder chocolate decadence collection - fall 2008

Oh Estee Lauder...why do you tempt us so...

If there is one thing neither one of us can resist, it's chocolate.

Combine that with our passion...makeup...and we're starting to salivate.

This Fall, Estee Lauder is introducing a collection for the chocolate lover in all of us...the Estee Lauder Chocolate Decadence Collection.

It combines gorgeous warm chocolate hues enhanced by luxurious caramel gold and sugared berry tones.

For the full effect, the look they've created for Fall features intensified lined eyes and softly glowing skin complemented by lightly sculpted lips and perfectly polished nails.

We're loving this compact, just for the name alone. Estee Lauder Creme Caramel Shimmer Powder ($32), delivers a beautiful subtle shimmer to your skin.

It combines marvelous swirls of milk chocolate, white chocolate, and golden hues that can be used alone for highlighting and contouring or blended together for a warm, radiant look.

You can apply this anywhere you want to glow...think your face, shoulders and décolletage.

It's suitable for all skin tones and packaged in EstÄ“e Lauder’s signature compact case featuring a rich chocolate brown color.

The new Signature Eyeshadow Quads ($35) are just to die. The pattern on each eyeshadow, reminds us of individual Godiva chocolates with their intricate and precious designs.

They come in two sets of colors, Berry Truffle and Caramel Truffle and feature a divine large mirror and dual ended applicators, both allowing for easy on the go application.

For even more eye drama, add intensified lined eyes with EstÄ“e Lauder’s Artist’s Eye Pencil ($19) in Brown Writer and new, limited edition Plum Writer. For beautifully defined lashes, finish with Projectionist Mascara ($20) in black

The Pure Color Lipstick ($22) in Berry Cordial and Creme Caramel and new limited edition Berry Swirl and Caramel Swirl is like a twisty cone treat for your lips. They keep your pout hydrated while delivering chocolatey hued goodness.

Finally, our fave...lipgloss. Estee Lauder Pure Color Swirl Gloss ($18) is fabulous and we want it...now.

It available in two shades, Berry Swirl and Caramel Swirl and they are just to precious for words. The tri-color swirly design was actually inspired by chocolatiers and their delectable ingredients. When you apply the gloss, all three shades combine together into one sheer, divine shade that can be worn solo or layered over lipstick.

Definitely going on the wish list.

Oh...yeah...as if that's not enough...the lip glosses and the lipsticks, have a raspberry scent too.

Rounding out the Fall offerings are their Nail Colors. Estee Lauder Pure Color Nail Lacquer ($18) is available in shades of Satin Gold and new, limited edition shades of Berry Cordial.

You can find them all at esteelauder.com and at Estee Lauder counters nationwide. Hurry though, most of these are limited editions.

guido for redken hair trends for fall 2008...the modern knot

We are forever intrigued by Guido. Whose last name we just found out...it's Palau.

He's helping us deliver some more hair trends for Fall 2008.

This time, were giving tips on Modern Knots.

Enjoy...

Guido's tips:

- Freshen up a low chignon by placing it off to the side. Blow-dry hair smooth, apply Hardwear 16 Super Strong Gel and pull hair into a a low knot on the right side. Mist on Vinyl Glam 02 Mega Shine Spray for a glam finish.

- For a messy-chic bun that lasts, use a ponytail as your base. Apply Thickening Lotion 06 Body Builder to damp hair, rough dry, then create a high ponytail. Backcomb the tail, twist it around the base and bobby pin, letting pieces fall loosely. Add healthy shine and firm finish with Quick Dry 18 Instant Finishing Spray.

- Create the simplest possible chignon: Apply Glass 01 Smoothing Serum and gather into a ponytail, instead of pulling hair all the way through the elastic, leave it in a loop with the ends sticking out.

Gorgeous.

And that's why we need to grow out our hair.

For more information on the Redken products that Guido recommends, including where to buy them...head on over to redken.com

Be sure to come back for the next Hair Trend for Fall 2008...Intense Shine.

In case you missed it, here's the first hair trend...Ponytail Perfection.

l'oreal sublime bronze pro perfect airbrush self tanning mist

We love a safe sunless tan here and adore L'Oreal, so I was really psyched to have the chance to review their Sublime Bronze Pro Perfect Airbrush Self Tanning Mist ($10).

Everything about this product has been well thought out.

The bottle itself is ergonomically designed and easy to hold.

It comes in one color (medium) because the formulation is meant to work with your skin's amino acids to create the perfect complimentary skin color.

It also delivers a fine mist of spray, that will continue to spray at all angles.

The one caveat?

The resulting mist is so clear and fine...you can't see where you're putting it.

I tended to over-spray a couple of areas each time and had some odd patches of color to explain to some people.

Maybe it's just me, but I could not seem to get the hang of it. My only hope came in the form Big L who sprayed me while I stood in front of him sans clothing (thank God for blinds...I'd never be able to look my neighbors in the eye again).

The resulting color looked great, no orange here...and it didn't really smell all that bad to me.

Maybe if I get up the nerve again, I'll give it another few test runs. Until then, it's sitting on my shelf...daring me to try again.

We'll see.

In the meantime, check out the other reviews on this product, over at Total Beauty.

pureology nanoworks

With my newly highlighted tresses, comes greater haircare responsibility.

Enter Pureology and their Nanoworks line of products.

They are definitely not inexpensive to say the least...we're talking major splurge territory here. But I'm really loving how amazing they are.

As with all of the Pureology line of products, Nanoworks has the same AntiFade Complex, contains no sulfates, uses organic botanicals, and is 100% Vegan.

What's different is that Nanoworks uses Nano Technology and an Anti-Aging Complex, which team up to rejuvinate lack-luster hair that's been damaged.

It does this all with an amazing scent, that is totally different from the other Pureology range. This is a combination of lavender, mandarin orange, jasmine, bergamot, rose, and vanilla that melds together into the most intoxicating fragrance...I'm seriously sniffing my hair all day.

My favorite combination has to be the Pureology NanoWorks Shampoo and NanoWorks Luxury Hair Masque.

While I love their Hydrate Shampoo and Conditioner (um...hello...is the conditoner with the tingly sensation not just completely to-die-for?) the NanoWorks shampoo wins by a smidge, for it's ability to use it daily and giving my hair a lighter feeling overall. It really lathers up great and washes out well.

The NanoWorks Conditioner would be great as a very light daily conditioner, but I'm head over heels for the NanoWorks Luxury Masque. I use them together, each time I wash my hair.

The first thought, is that it would eventually weigh your hair down...but that's so not the case.

I start off my shower by washing my hair, then applying the masque (with the handy scoopy comb that allows you to use just the exact amount you need - a fact direction reader Christine figured out) and allowing it to sink in as I finish with the rest of my showerly duties. It rinses out perfectly, hydrates my hair amazingly, gives it such amazing body, and delivers tons of shine.

Love.

I still switch up my shampoos and conditioners during the week, but these two have earned themselves a spot in permanent rotation.

You can find out more about these and the other amazing members of the Pureology family, at pureology.com.

bobbi brown - mauve collection lip glosses and lip colors for fall 2008

We are total Bobbi Brown fanatics. As far as we're concerned, her new color collections never disappoint. She always has something for everybody.

Part of the fabulous Mauve Collection is her new lip colors, lip glosses, and long-wear gel eyeliner.

What's great about the lippies, is that they have great undertones that can really be worn by almost anybody. In addition to wearing them alone, you could totally layer them in a multitude of ways for countless new looks.

The utterly gorgeous new colors for lip glosses are:

- Black Pearl (shimmer) : deep platinum heather
- Iced Mauve (shimmer) : medium icy brown
- Mauve : pink mauve

The new lip colors are:

- Heather Mauve : medium brown mauve
- Pale Mauve : pale pink mauve

If I had to pick my favorite out of the three glosses, it would have to be the Iced Mauve. It really compliments my skin tone well and looks pretty on it's own. The Mauve is okay on me, but being my lips already have a natural deepish color, it comes off a little darker on me than it should, it also doesn't go as well with my complexion as I'd like. I think this would look better on Christine with her fairer skin tone and light hair. The Black Pearl isn't a bad color on me and I think that it would make a nice layering gloss.

Neither one of us had a chance to try out either of the lip colors, but I've checked out the swatches on some other blogs and online at bobbibrowncosmetics.com and think they would look amazing layered with any one of the glosses. Guaranteeing you several different looks.

As for the new Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner ($19) in Black Mauve Shimmer Ink it's described as a deep chocolate mauve with a golden pearl. It's gorgeous. I have another one of her Long-Wear Gel Eyeliners and it lasts until you take if off. A word of caution, use a light hand and build up your coverage...with stuff like this you can really go from chic to hooker-esque is seconds flat. Also, if you like a smudged line, like both of us do, do your smudging quickly because it sets really fast.

We also have the scoop on Bobbi's new Metallic Collection for Fall 2008. Due to hit counters in August are 17 new Metallic Eyeshadows. For an October release are her new Metallic Lip Colors in 16 to-die-for hues. We'll work to get you some sort of images asap!

sera anti aging technology

The Sera Anti-Aging line is a unique line of skincare products. There are 5 products (although I heard through the grapevine a 6th product is in the works) and 4 of the 5 products are roll on application. And since they are roll on they are easy to use and very little mess involved. Just unscrew the cap, roll on the product and put the cap back on. With continuous use, they are supposed to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles...as well as allow you to have brighter, smoother, and more hydrated skin.

The 5 products are The Eye Wrinkle Serum, Dark Circle Serum, Hydrating Formula (moisturizer), Lip Plumper Serum and Intensive Repair Cream (the one that is not a roll on and a cream you can pretty much use for just about any issue: night cream, a mask, chapped cheeks).

We're actually in the process of testing out The Eye Wrinkle Serum and we'll let you know how it goes. We can say the the roller applicator makes it very easy to apply and it does make your eyes feel more hydrated. Time will tell if it helps with the fine lines and wrinkles.

All 5 products are $39.95 each and can be purchased at rollawaywrinkles.com or by calling 1.877.653.0015. And for a limited time if you buy one of the five core products you get one free.

5 minutes, 5 questions with denise estrada

Here is another installment of one of our favorite features, 5 minutes, 5 questions.

This time we had the opportunity to interview the owner of the Mélange Apothecary, Denise Estrada.

Could you tell our readers a little about yourself and your amazing products?

We opened Melange (French, to mix or blend) in 2007. I have worked for the past two decades in product development, esthetics, retail and consulting. This has given me a unique perspective in that I enjoy the creative process of making something and can also draw on a lot of resources (fragrance, packaging, products) that might not be available to the average retailer. By combining all of these aspects, Melange was created: A place where people could have comfortable and total access to fragrances not widely found, wonderful products from other companies, beautiful and relaxed surroundings. We have a sit-down fragrance bar and over 80 (and growing) fragrances to peruse, blend and create your own personal fragrance blend. All formulas are stored on our computer in personal profiles. You can always access it or we can look up your fragrance for gifts, etc., We mix your personal fragrance into the product of your choice -- lotions, creams, body wash, spa products, home fragrance and eau de parfum. We make everything to order. Our price points are very reasonable (that was very important to me). The most expensive thing we blend is eau de parfum crimped to order $42. Body Cream $22. Body Lotion is $20. Parfum concentrate in a roller $18. Body Wash $18. Our concrete fragrances (more on these below) are only $10 each. Our philosophy is that we want people to make themselves at home while they are here; it is very relaxed and friendly here.

All of the products sound fabulous. Could you tell us which one is your favorite?

I love my body cream. The base is actually modeled on a face cream I used years ago. It holds the fragrance beautifully, leave the skin soft, but is non-greasy.I am currently blending Pomegranate & Grapefruit, a big favorite for fall and a year-around favorite for me -- my husband loves it. Also, I like the .35 ounce roller. I can customize it, carry it in my handbag, and travel with it. Gardenia with The' Blanc (white tea) and Amber are my current blend. I change them often.

The parfum blending kit is a genius idea. What was your inspiration for creating that?

People love the concrete parfumes. I make new batches every few weeks. A blend of fresh beeswax, jojoba and fragrance. Small enough for a handbag, pocket, diaperbag, etc., I noticed people layering and mixing them in the store. The $10 price allows people to afford more than one, so their natural inclination was to try and find fragrances they could wear along or combine! The four fragrances I chose (Feuille de Fromboise, Green Tea, Tuberose, Grenade) are all beautiful alone; yet compliment one another in multiple ways. People report back to me on the many ways they can combine them using different amounts and combinations.

What are your top three beauty products?

Personally: Bobbi Brown Makeup (I love her mascara), Bumble & Bumble hair products, Lucy B Lip gloss.

In Store: Custom blended parfum concentrate, Cote Bastide Home Ambiance, Claus Porto soaps (Oprah's favorites!)

What is the best piece of beauty advice you've ever received?

Sunscreen! Without a doubt.....

Just what is this Brillante Award all about?

Well...the Brillante Award highlights those blogs that are just fabulous and allows the person (or people) who receive it, to pass it on to seven other blogs that they just adore.

5) leave those 7 bloggers a comment about receiving the brilliant premio.

Here are the blogs that we're nominating...

miss oops - mishap tape and nundies

We can't tell you how many times we've had our bra straps come flapping down during random occasions during the course of a day. It's really annoying. Especially when it happens when your hands aren't free to put them back where they belong...uh...because they are usually filled with a toddler, bag, groceries, and various stuff, on a daily basis.

Leave it to a woman (and mother of two) to come up with the brilliant solution below...

Miss Oops Mishap Tape ($6.99)—It's a stretchy double sided tape that you can use to stop gaping blouses, loose straps, screwy hemlines, puckered pockets, and flapping belts. Or any where else you can find a use for it.

What's great about it, is that it has a little bit of a thickness to it. That combined with the stretchiness makes it super comfortable. It's also
made with hypo-allergenic adhesive, so fabric gently sticks to skin or other fabric. Mishap Tape comes in 2 sizes, with 36 strips to a box.

We've actually tried the Mishap Tape on our floppy straps and voila! Nary a falling strap in sight!

Genius!

Moving on to product number two...Nundies.

Um...okay...we're not even gonna lie here...this is not a problem that either one of us have. Neither one of us have ever gone commando...ever. But, we are not judgmental people here at b.i.r.l.. So if you often (or occasionally) choose to hit the town...sans your drawers...here's another option.

Nundies ($15.00)—
These are basically disposable panti-less panties. All you do is attach them to your pants (on the inseam) with the adhesive tab and you're good to go!

Available in Buff, Black and Assorted.

All of the fabulous Miss Oops products can be found online at missoops.com and at select merchants.

guido for redken hair trends for fall 2008

Okay...we are seriously dying to meet this guy. Mainly for three reasons...

1) He goes by the name Guido...that's it just Guido. Anyone who just goes by one name, has to be way cooler than us.
2) He designed and executed the hair at more than 30 shows for the Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2008 in Milan, NYC, Paris, and London...so...uh...yeah...he's that good.
3) He's Redken's Creative Consultant and appears in almost every Allure magazine feature (we've ever read) on hair.

Now do you see why he's at the top of our Need to Meet list?

We're going to be delivering you four different looks, in four parts, that will showcase Guido for Redken Fall/Winter 2008 Hair Trends.

He's provided the tips and the Redken products, to get you ready for Fall in style.

So let's start off with the first trend...Ponytail Perfection.

Guido's Tips:

-Combine textures to add interest to a ponytail.

-Apply Hardwear 16 Super Strong Gel from the forehead to the crown for a sleek finish, then pull hair into a ponytail.

-Either leave the tail free of product for natural movement, or add second-day texture by misting on Fabricate 03 Heat-Active Texturizer and blasting with blowdryer.

-To get a super sleek ponytail, as seen at Miu Miu: Prep hair with Spray Starch 15 Heat Memory Styler and create a high ponytail.

-Flat iron the tail for ultra straight results, then mist on Quick Dry 18 Instant Finishing Spray to add shine and control.

-Whether you choose a defined part or no part at all, it's key to keep your ponytail free of fly-aways - Glass 01 Smoothing Serum layered over Quick Dry 18 Instant Finishing Spray will keep fly-aways in check.

Stay tuned for Part 2...Modern Knots!

becca cosmetics - jenn's faves

Christine did a fabulous post on BECCA this past Saturday...so why this review?

Well...I'm loving me some BECCA myself right now.

Two of my faves?

BECCA Pressed Shimmer Powder ($38) in Princess. It's a fabulous rosy-gold shimmer that delivers just the right amount of color.

It's actually the perfect shade for my light to medium skin tone...and delivers the kind of naturally-radiant skin I'm always after.

The best part is, you can use it anywhere you need a little bit of oomph. Dust it over your cheekbones, your eyelids, temples, forehead, shoulders, or anywhere else you'd like to glow.

I've actually taken a brush similar to their Eye Colour Blender #35 , swiped it over my eyelids for a quick brightening wash of subtle color, and applied some of the powder to the inner part of my eyes for a real boost of wide awake-ness (yes I know that's not really a word...but it should be).

BECCA Jewel Dust in Titania ($24). It's a gorgeous, gorgeous metallic gray that's so in right now.

The pure pigments are so amazing and can be layered brilliantly, or worn on their own, and still deliver an impact.

I love to take my flat eyeliner brush (dry), place the color directly at the upper lash line, and smudge a little bit.

Perfect.

They also have plenty of other drool worthy products that are going on my wish list. From palettes to their sublime Beach Tint ($25) it's really hard to choose just one.

But, my birthday is right around the corner...so...are you listening Christine?

zia natural skincare - 15 minute face lift

Last week, I reviewed a mask that was amazing, but might have been outside some people's budgets.

By like...a lot.

This one is a much more budget friendly option.

Zia Natural Skincare 15 Minute Face Lift
($21) is a great mask that doesn't contain harsh chemicals, artificial colors, or artificial fragrances.

It comes in the little kit you see here, with all that you see here. Including the cute little fan applicator brush, that makes you feel like you're in a spa.

Just add in some candles and some Enya and you're there.

It's really easy to add everything together, but you'll need a small container to mix the two ingredients in.

All I did was follow the directions and add a tablespoon of powder to a tablespoon of Sea Tonic Rosewater and Aloe Toner, to form a thin paste. I then applied it to my (clean) face and neck, with the brush and waited for 15-20 minutes. For me, by about 10 minutes I could feel it working. Make sure you keep your face still, because it's going to get a little tight feeling.

Have a wet washcloth ready to take it off and then rinse with warm water. Follow up with the same toner and a moisturizer (not provided).

While I don't have any wrinkles (so I can't attest for the temporary wrinkle reduction it talks about) it did tighten up my face and didn't leave my skin feeling dry. It did impart a nice glow, and made my skin feel refreshed.

This would be a good mask to try before an evening out (make sure you try it out before hand...just in case) to give a temporary lift, tightening, and glow.

On the Zia website, they also offer some other masks. Christine is going to be reviewing their Apple Refining Mask ($25) which is described as a clarifying treatment for clogged and sun damaged skin. I'm actually thinking about checking out their Citrus Night Time Reversal Mask ($6 for a trial size). It's said to reverse roughness and environmental damage while you sleep.

I'm also testing their Ultimate Eye Cream ($36) which I am loving so far. It's their number one eye cream and was the winner in the category for Best Eye Cream in the Better Nutrition Best of Beauty Awards 2008. A little tease? It smells phenomenal, it's the bomb, and it's so hydrating...review to come soon.

All of Zia's products are available at select fine health food stores and online at zianatural.com.

some more cruise inspired looks for summer 2008

Here's another look, that's great for Christine to take along when she leaves for her cruise. I'm loving the splash of yellow and the great muted silver accent of the shoes.

This is a great outfit to wear for one of her excursions. The tank keeps everything breezy and the cotton pants will ensure that she's comfortable. She could also pair this with a cute pair of shorts. The flats are great for doing a lot of walking and the adorable cropped short sleeved cardi, will keep her warm once it's gets a little chilly.

When your wearing this much color, you want to keep your look soft and sweet. Being she'll be out in the sun, she should start off with a great high spf sunscreen for her face and body. Then add concealer right where she needs it. One of our faves? Touche Eclat ($40). It comes in four great colors and will really make her glow where ever she puts it.

Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge for Lips and Cheeks ($22) in Powder Pink will give her cheeks a great pink flush. It's great because it's something she can throw in her bag and take along with her for touch ups.

I'm always one for sun protection while outside, so Clinique Long Last Glosswear Spf 15 ($14) in Bamboo Pink will look gorgeous on, last (almost) forever, and protect her pout from the elements.

When you're going to be walking around all day in the humidity, why fight it with a flat iron?

Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray ($21) is the prescription for tousled hair that looks like you're not even trying. Just spray on damp hair, twist some pieces around your finger, air-dry, or blow dry with a diffuser, and shake it out. Finish off the ends with their Grooming Creme ($25) for a great soft, flexible hold, and you're done.

Fabulous.

chanel precision cleansers and toners - new for 2008

We are mad for anything Chanel. While neither one of us will probably ever be able to afford their to-die-for clothing...seriously...$5,000 for a jacket...yeah...not in this lifetime...it's easy to make a splurge for their skincare, cosmetics, and fragrances.

Well, if you're like us and love anything beauty related with the double C's, hold on to your credit cards because Chanel is set to release a new line of Precision Cleansers and Toners, specifically meant to combat the daily dirt and pollution that our beautiful faces come in contact with on a regular basis.

After a lot of research by the Chanel Research team, they've come up with these amazing products. There's a lot of scientific speak that follows and it's actually pretty interesting, so read on...

At the heart of this high-performance collection developed by Chanel Research is the Tulip Tree, which has been planted in cities worldwide to help de-pollute the air. Its shiny green leaves are covered by a protective wax that traps pollutants. As the toxic particles accumulate, the wax barrier prevents the pollutants from penetrating the surface, allowing them to be naturally eliminated when it rains.

The use of plants to de-pollute the environment, a process called phytoremediation, utilizes plants to naturally absorb the environmental contaminants. However, Chanel is the first to integrate this natural technique into a tailor-made product line which addresses the onslaught of environmental pollution head-on.

Combining the natural strength of the Tulip Tree Extract & Concentrate, with a bio-technological ingredient, Bioglucane, for greater efficacy, Chanel Précision Cleansers & Toners are able to perform three exclusive actions:

1. Trap pollutants to prevent skin damage from daily exposure to harmful environmental elements

2. Remove up to100% of impurities caused by harmful indoor and outdoor pollution

3. Protect the integrity of skin’s natural defense barriers, while respecting skin’s delicate balance

All we know is that it sound fabulous and we can't wait to check it out. Below are the three choices for each specific skin type.

Comfort: For Dry, Dehydrated, and Sensitive Skin

Specially formulated to alleviate dry and dehydrated skin with lasting comfort. Arum Lilly Extract, a flower known for its hydrating and moisturizing properties, enriches these effective nondrying formulas to thoroughly and comfortably cleanse, soothe and tone. Freshened and freed of pollutants, skin is deeply moisturized for long-lasting comfort.

Mousse Confort - Rinse-Off Foaming Mousse Cleanser 150ml $45.00
Lait Confort -
Creamy Cleansing Milk 150ml $45.00
Lotion Confort -
Silky Soothing Toner 200ml $45.00

Balance: For Normal to Combination Skin

Each formula in this range offers normal-to-combination skin perfect cleansing. Mallow Extract, from a flower renowned for its emollient and softening properties, respects skin’s balance and gently purifies. Skin is velvety-smooth and radiant.

Mousse Douceur - Rinse-Off Foaming Mousse Cleanser 150ml $45.00
Lotion Douceur -
Gentle Hydrating Toner 200ml $45.00

Purity: For Combination to Oily Skin

Gently yet effectively formulated to meet the needs of combination and oily skins. Meadowsweet Extract, from a flower with naturally powerful astringent properties, helps eliminate excess sebum; surface oils are controlled. Skin is optimally cleansed, visibly freshened and beautifully mattified.

Gel Purete - Rinse-Off Foaming Gel Cleanser 150ml $45.00
Lotion Purete - Fresh Mattifying Toner 200ml $45.00

The new line is due to hit Chanel counters in stores and chanel.com in August 2008.

becca cosmetics

Here is a line of cosmetics that I am really, really liking right now: BECCA.

I have tried several different products so far and I like all of them. But right now I am loving the Glossy Lip Tint ($23). It is a long lasting translucent gloss that delivers radiant shine with a splash of colour.

As far as glosses go this is a far less sticky and is fairly long-lasting. And there are 26 different colors to choose from. I was just on the beccacosmetics.com and they are out of stock of several colors but they seem to have them over at neimanmarcus.com. Even if they are out of a couple colors there are still over 20 to choose from.

And if you are in the market for a new mascara (yes I am still very much in love with my LashBlast but I like to have options), you should check out BECCA's Ultimate Mascara in either Black or Bronze for $24. According to beccacosmetics.com the mascara has many benefits such as water-resistant against water, sweat and tears; makes lashes shinier, helps repair lashes and prevent lash lost. You don't hear of too many mascaras fighting lash lost. I have the Bronze color. i have only tired it a couple times but I like it so far. I am use to black or black/brown mascara so the color has taken some getting used to, but the mascara works well.

BECCA is available at Neiman Marcus, Beccacosmetics.com, Blissworld.com, Dermstore.com and fine retail boutiques nationwide.

I also have a couple eye shadows and shimmering powders that have gone into frequent rotation with my day-to-day faves. Their packaging is really nice and simple. It reminds me of NARS. The same sturdy rubber, that could probably withstand my son tossing it across the bathroom - not that he'll ever have the chance.

bioelements moisture positive cleanser

For about a month and half now, I have left my most loved Kiehl's facial cleanser in the hall closet and gave Bioelements Moisture Positive Cleanser a try.

I was concerned it would be too much for my skin and totally make me break out. I am fairly convinced this is going to happen with pretty much every beauty product I try.

Instead, I have had very few breakouts and they were not due to this cleanser. It works great! And the smell, is wonderful. Even if the cleanser didn't work the smell would convince you your face was clean. It just smells clean. I think it's the combination of sage, lavender, rosemary, and sandalwood.

It doesn't leave my skin feeling tight or dried out and it also doesn't feel oily or not clean. It rinses off really well and I don't feel like I still have soap on.

Active Ingredients:
Ginseng, Sumac, Gotu Kola, Dong Quai and Watercress (adaptogenic herbs that support and strengthen the skin, helping it withstand stress)
Sandalwood (healing, soothing)
Sage (healing)
Geranium (astringent, regenerating)
Rosemary (antiseptic, balancing, rejuvenating)
Lavender (antiseptic, healing)

It also comes in a really nice glass bottle with a pump. It would look really nice out on the counter or in the shower (where mine lives).

Head on over to bioelements.com to find out where a salon or spa near you that sells the line of skincare.

anastasia beverly hills...brow pencil

Not too long ago, I was the victim of a random eyebrow waxing attack.

It basically involved some waxer deciding that I didn't need a thicker eyebrow and decided to thin it from the arch down.

It looked like a squiggly tail.

The worst part was that they weren't even and she was completely obnoxious besides...not one apology.

Needless to say, I've been freaked out to try another random waxer.

I was hoping I was going to be able to take advantage of that waxing service we talked about a couple of months back...you know...the one for the Anastasia Brow Studios that are at select Nordies?

But, I totally didn't have enough hair to warrant a waxing.

As of now, it's looking a lot better on the attacked side.

It's still in need of some more growth in areas...but, there's definitely been an improvement overall.

I'm attributing the growth to a couple of tips I learned from someone in the know and another product that I'm testing and shall be talked about later.

For now, let's talk about this.

This is awesome and my new best friend (sorry Christine).

The Brow Pencil ($20) by Anastasia Beverly Hills, is definitely something that's been getting a lot of use from me.

It fills in those little missing hairs and makes it look natural not painted on. The trick I've found that works for me, is to use short little strokes to fill in those missing hairs, and then go back over your work lightly with the spoolie on the other end. If you want it to last, be sure to set it with either the brow gel, a brow pomade, or a brow wax.

I'm using the medium ash color and you've seen the color of my brows. I think it works perfectly with my coloring. Any darker and my brows would be heading toward Strangeville.

Right now though, they just look fabulous.

Try anastasia.net for more information and to purchase...or try a Nordies near you.

a little random sampling from the beauty closet at b.i.r.l. headquarters

Being beauty editors here at our blog, we get the chance to try out many products that cross our desks.

Lately we've been cleaning out our closet and we've decided to bring you a random assortment of goodies that are just to-die-for.

Here they are, in no particular order...

Hair Play Set ($20) is one of those products that really can work on any type of hair. Plus it's eco-friendly.

It comes in three different holds: light, medium, and extra hold...and it's fabulous.

We're loving the light hold, for an easy blowout with gorgeous shine and softness. It actually helps to protect your beautiful strands from the heat of your blow dryer, flat iron, and curling iron.

A tip for our curly haired readers, from the creator Fritz Clay?

Apply SET foam to clean towel-dried hair. When completely moist with product, spin hair around finger or position natural curls and diffuse or air dry.

Perfect.

We know what you're thinking...a toothpaste?

Uh...yeah...especially one that kicks the heck out of seriously stained teeth like this one.

Rembrandt Intense Stain Toothpaste ($8) is phenomenal because it gets rid of the deep stains like coffee (trust us, we're both coffee drinkers) and wine, but does it gently.

Plus it makes your mouth feel all fresh and minty.

Love.

If you've ever fought with your hair while trying to take off your makeup at night...the Tassi ($15) is for you.

It comes in a range of 12 adorable colors, you can machine wash and dry it, and it really works.

The bonus? It doesn't mess up your hair.

Now, why didn't we think of that?

While this is definitely not a beauty product per se, it is a product whose proceeds go towards something that is near and dear to our hearts...breast cancer.

The American Cancer Society's eCommerce site, HOPE Shop, is featuring this limited edition Flora Envirosax Breast Cancer Awareness Bag ($10).

It's an eco-friendly reusable shopping bag, that rolls up small enough to store it in a glove compartment or purse.

Each bag will be delivered with a mammography reminder magnet from the American Cancer Society, and all proceeds go towards the American Cancer Society's breast cancer research, education, advocacy, and patient and family services programs.

Now that's a beautiful buy.

prescriptives all skins mineral makeup spf 15

As Christine has already told you, she's been dubbed the mineral expert here at b.i.r.l.

I have been very hesitant (to say the least) to try mineral makeup, mainly in its powder form.

Why this is, I have no idea.

Maybe because I'm afraid I'll look like a woman of nobility from Marie Antoinette's reign pre-Revolution...all powdery and harsh looking.

Well, stop the presses.

I'm actually loving this mineral makeup.

All Skins Mineral Makeup SPF 15 ($32) is awesome. It's chock full of good stuff like: vitamins, minerals, and sun protection. Plus it makes my skin look absolutely gorgeous.

Not powdery at all.

Oh yeah...it also contains gems.

Yes...you heard right...gems. This makeup is the only mineral makeup that features R.E.C. or Radiance Emitting Crystals. It's a unique combo of Amethyst, Rose Quartz, and Calcite that makes your skin literally appear lit from within.

Sweet.

It comes in 16 heavenly shades, so you're bound to find one to suit your complexion.

How do you use it?

Well, you would use it as you would any other mineral makeup.

You first tap a small amount into the lid. Swirl the Round Buff Brush($30) in the lid and tap away excess. Apply it in a circular motion... starting at the outside of the cheekbone, moving towards the nose and back. Then continue from cheekbone downward to jawline and back. Repeat this for more coverage.

The result?

Fabulously glowing skin that looks like mine only better. It also feels incredibly light once you've applied it. Plus I'm able to layer it over those areas where I need it most and it doesn't look all caked on.

Just superb.

Thanks Prescriptives!

clinique sun products for summer 2008

Happy Mid-Summer!

It is still Summer...right?

I swear that I am getting no sleep lately and getting up at the crack of dawn besides.

Did I tell you that Little L likes to wake me up by pulling all of the sheets off of me?

Yeah...that's a fun wake up call.

So from lack of sleep, to really rude awakening, I'm way off the charts day wise.

Take yesterday for example. I actually thought that it was Sunday. Why? Because it felt like a Sunday. Has that ever happened to you?

Okay...now I'm really digressing.

Both Christine and I have always loved Clinique. Considering that it was one of the first makeup lines that I ever used, it will always have a place in my heart.

Their skincare is phenomenal, I mean you always know somebody who uses something from their line.

The three products above are great for Summer and beyond really.

Clinique City Block Sheer Oil-Free Daily Face Protector SPF 25 ($16.50) City Block is great because it really protects your face from all of the elements and offers a high-level broad-spectrum UVA/UVB daily sun protection. I know that I won't step out of the house without at least a SPF 15 on my face. This one surpasses that and it's sheer. If you found that the regular City Block was a little too much for you, you'd probably like this a lot more. I signed myself up for a beauty event at the Clinique Saks Fifth Avenue in Tysons Galleria (if you're ever there, make sure you ask for Rob H., he's a doll and a-mazing...really...we've both declared him our new best friend) in about a week and I'm adding this to my purchase.

Clinique UV Response Face SPF 3o and 50
($16) Is another broad spectrum UVA/UVB sun protection for the face. It actually provides antioxidant protection that increases with the intensity of the sun. So, in this case, the sun actually is working for you. It does this by triggering a repair that helps prevent long-term signs of aging. It's oil-free, great for all skin types, and it's water-resistant. You can use this as a regular sunscreen, but make sure you reapply it often...be sun smart. They also make a Clinique UV Response for the body with an SPF 30 and an SPF 50.

Clinique Touch of Bronze Moisturizing Body Lotion ($19) Is a recent addition to the Clinique family. This one is a gradual tanner that you can build...like Jergens. It's said to give you a gorgeous faux glow. Christine is testing this one, so she'll be sharing those results soon.

Oh well, I have to go now. It's actually 12 am and I have to get ready for my early morning de-sheeting! Joy to me.

Goodnight!

kinerase extreme face lift

I am dying to try anything from the Kinerase line...I mean it anything.

I received a sample of their Under Eye Rescue and I was so excited to try it out but also wanted to save it...for what I don't know. So, it sits in my bathroom looking pretty. I think I may take it on my cruise since we are flying and I have to adhere to the 3 ounces or less rule.

Anywho, here is a new product from Kinerase that truly sounds like magic in a bottle. It is Extreme Face Lift ($150).

This one of a kind formula instantly relaxes and fills in wrinkles for immediate lifting results. It also visibly smoothes and fills trouble spots like forehead furrows, frown lines and crow’s feet. Kinerase Extreme Lift Face utilizes the most advanced active ingredients to instantly reduce the depth of wrinkles. It also boosts collagen for an immediate visible tightening and smoothing effective. This topical treatment, far less invasive than physician-injected alternatives, provides lasting results without leaving your face expressionless.

Kinerase Extreme Face Lift is available exclusively at Sephora beginning in May 2008. It is also available at Nordstrom, Sephora, ULTA, and QVC. To purchase Kinerase online, visit kinerase.com, or to purchase by phone call 1-800-826-9755.

Apparently you can see the changes right after you appply the product. Although $150 is a pretty good chuck of change, I am guessing any other procedure that gets you the same results (by injecting or actually having a face lift) is a little bit more than that.

If anyone has tried the Extreme Face Lift, we would love to hear how it works.

fall trends for hair from guy riggio

With Fall right around the corner, we figured that we would get you one step ahead of the trends in hair.

Here are some great looks and tips on how to achieve them, by Guy Riggio...stylist at the Serge Normant at John Frieda Salon in Los Angeles.

Enjoy!

BraidsBraids are going to make a comeback this year. But don’t envision Little Bo Peep—these braided up-dos are chic and bohemian all in one. The great thing about braids is that most girls can do them on their own. I recommend making random mid-thickness braids in the back of your head and a few from the side, leaving the front pieces straight. Then twist and wrap the braids around one another in a bun, making sure you intertwine the straighter pieces from the front and sides in with the braids. Secure the bun with bobby pins and remember to leave the style a little messy.

The Low PonytailThose girls who know they look great with their hair pulled back should definitely rock this look for fall. Before you gather your hair and pull it all back, section out a piece of hair at the nape of the neck. After you pull your hair away from your face, brush it with a Mason Pearson brush—every woman should invest in one. This will ensure that the hair visually moves backwards and remains uniform. Tack slicked hair into place with light hairspray to prevent flyaways. Fasten the ponytail with a clear hair band, then take the hair that’s sectioned out and wrap it around the ponytail, using a bobby pin to fasten.

Sleek Flat Ironed HairTo get this look, start by blow drying using a small amount of your favorite relaxing cream. If hair is too stubborn to go straight, use a brush that is part plastic and part boar bristle. A ceramic flat iron is the best choice for straightening, as it’s very forgiving on the hair. After ironing, use a light application of your favorite glossing drops as a finishing touch.

Full HairBouncing, full, sexy hair is a great look for women who have wavy hair and don’t normally wear it down or flat iron it. There are many ways to achieve this look—use a brush and blow dry, or use a large barreled curling iron. Even though roller sets can be a little time consuming, they do wonders for achieving this luscious look.

Okay...it's official...we're in love with him!

If you're in LA, or planning on visiting any time soon, make a beeline for the Serge Normant at John Frieda Salon in LA - 8440 Melrose Place, Los Angeles, 323.653.4040.

beauty buys under $10 - citre shine shine miracle aerosol shine serum

Who doesn't love gorgeous shiny hair?

I mean, I've never heard one person complain that their hair was too shiny.

There are some great products out there that will make your mane glisten like diamonds, but unfortunately some of those serums and sprays are a little steep for some people's budgets.

Considering that Christine and I are both on the hubby poop list for owning way too many expensive haircare products...and they haven't even seen the ones we've hidden in our secret stash...we figured that we'd bring you a product that does the job for way less money.

Citre Shine Shine Miracle Aerosol Shine Serum is an aerosol shine serum that does the same job as its more expensive salon counterparts.

It contains real fruit extracts combined with something called Citrus Micro-Luminates to create super shiny hair that looks phenomenal.

And it smells delicious.

Because it's in a spray form, you can mist it directly from the can to your finished do (be sure to hold it 6-8 inches from your head), spray it on a paddle brush and run it through your strands, or spray it in your hands and let those do the work.

Either way it's just fabulous...and it might just help get us off of that list.

Citre Shine can be found and many mass retailers, including Target and CVS. I found this online at drugstore.com.

aussie's new opposites attract styling products

You're probably wondering why we're featuring a big honkin bottle of hairspray over to the left.

Especially considering we both have an extreme aversion to the stuff.

Just ask Christine to tell you about Hairgate 2008. It involves hairspray, an insanely HUGE blowout, and helmet head.

It was bad...really bad.

What's so great about this new styling line from Aussie (other than the price...uh...hello...$2.99 each?!), is that it's meant to do away with the sticky hold you normally associate with most styling products.

The result is touchable, soft hair that rocks.

If you read this post, you already know that one of us loves the shampoo and conditioner (to be fair, Christine is testing out another combo that she'll be sharing with you soon).

So it's no surprise that these products are fabulous as well.

Let's start with the awesome Spray Gel.

It's great because you can direct it at the roots, where you need it.

Here's a great tip we learned from the Aussie Webinar...

After spraying the gel at your roots, don't use a brush on them. Just loosely blow dry at the roots and finish off with a round brush on the ends.

While the word mousse screams bad 80's hair...Aussie's Mousse is better. It provides a fabulous shine, volume, and hydration that that will have you changing your mind.

Our last product?

The Hairspray.

During the webinar, Sarah (Aussie's hair guru/spokesperson) gave a couple of tips on how she uses it.

One thing she does, is she mists a flat brush with the spray and runs it through the finished style.

This provides a light hold and prevents flyaways.

Or, if you're trying to create the perfect ponytail, spray your brush and brush your hair back to smooth it out and create the perfect pony.

Another tip? Use the hairspray as a styling product before flat ironing or using a curling iron.

Take a small section and mist it lightly, then use your iron of choice...this will help to lock in your style.

If you haven't been over to the Aussie site...you need to get there stat. Sarah has some brilliant tips for hair and even has how-to videos, so you can see how to achieve those gorgeous styles at home. Click here to take you there.

perricone md cosmeceuticals firming facial peel off mask

I have been dying for the chance to go for a facial.

Considering that would involve major planning on my part, it's probably not going to happen for at least a while.

Note to spas and salons...consider a nice sized room with cartoons, games, toys, and a caregiver, and watch the money roll in.

Trust in that.

In the meantime, I've been on a mask hunt.

While I've heard of Perricone, I've yet to try any of their skincare.

What was I thinking?

The Perricone MD Cosmeceuticals Firming Facial Peel Off Mask ($110) is nothing short of amazing.

Trust me, I had my doubts. Especially considering the price tag...not cheap to say the least.

It's basically a serum and peel off mask that you use in conjunction with one another. It's that double tag team of products, that provides you with the fantastic results.

First of all, it's not drying at all. Having tried masks in the past (especially those of the peel off kind) I've been left with dryness, not so with this one. The reason? Alpha Lipoic Acid and DMAE.

Together they minimize the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and enlarged pores. They also firm the skin and make it appear more radiant and resilient.

After the second day...I am not kidding you...I seriously looked at my skin in the mirror, without makeup and on like 4 hours of sleep...my skin was actually all glow-y and pretty. Believe me it shocked the heck out of me too.

It's definitely a splurge to say the least. But, if you factor in the cost per facial in a spa...you'd be paying a lot more for those in comparison to the amount of treatments you have in this set.

And it's your skin, so you should pamper yourself once in a while.

Try perriconemd.com for more amazing products, including their Face Firming Activator ($120) which, in clinical trials, 82% of users reported a decrease in pore size and improved skin tone and 73% saw a marked decrease in wrinkles, improved texture and overall radiance.

Yeah...told you they were good.

l'oreal paris infallible never fail lipgloss

L'Oreal Paris Infallible Never Fail Lipgloss ($10) is a marvelous drugstore find that really does a great job providing moisture and gorgeous color to your lips.

It comes in an array of 16 fabulous shades, but I've been partial to Sunset lately....it's just a sweet looking nude-ish coral, that sings along with my light to medium complexion.

The lipgloss has a special heart-shaped applicator, which was created to follow the contours of your lips for precise application.

Just in case you need a touch up on the road, L'Oreal provides a mirror at the top of the cap.

Great for me, because I normally apply my gloss on the run sans mirror.

All that and it smells really nice too.

While I can't say that it lasts for the whole 6 hours it claims, it does last longer than other regular glosses and your lips feel hydrated, long after it's gone.

Not bad, considering I very rarely get the chance to re-apply while chasing a toddler around the house.

I mean...really...who actually has time to do that?

elemis pro-collagen radiantly smooth body cream

While we can't always afford to purchase the little luxuries in life, it's nice to see what amazing products are out there waiting for us to break out the charge cards.

Elemis Pro-Collagen Radiantly Smooth Body Cream ($162) is probably one of the richest and luxurious body moisturizers that we've come across in a long time.

Not only does it come in the most fabulous presentation box ever, it also makes your skin feel instantly soft and touchable.

In fact, with constant use, you can expect to see your crepey and dull skin texture diminish...leaving your skin feeling more hydrated, youthful, and glow-y in appearance.

Containing
lattice technology and cell cohesion (two big scientific words that we know absolutely nothing about) it is said to make the skin firmer too.

Uh...hello...just the thought of having firmer and more youthful skin is making us giddy.

If the cost is freaking you out, consider this...many of you wouldn't hesitate to spend that much and more for a moisturizer for your face...why not show your body the same kind of love?

Considering that the jar is ginormous, it should last you awhile at least. You could also just use this at night or every other night to make it last longer too...we've done this many times with other worthwhile splurges.

Try elemis.com to find out how and where to purchase.

We'll be sure to give you our review on this soon.

raw minerals

All because I tried Bare Escentuals about 7 months ago and then eventually bought a kit, Jenn deemed me the resident mineral makeup expert and proceeded to give me anything mineral related. Who knew some many companies made mineral makeup?!

At some point in the mineral whirlwind Raw Minerals made it's way to me. I have tried it numerous times over the last few months. As far as mineral makeup goes, this is a great one. I have the active Active Mineral Foundation, Active Veil, and Mineral Glow.

All 3 products contain:

  • ActivSilk, which is a powder that absorbs skin oil and helps to reduce the sign of wrinkles.
  • Soybean Extract, which helps with the appearance of deep wrinkles, balance skin color, and skin texture.
  • Natural Corn Extract, that helps stimulate cell renewal to help even out the complexion and enhance skin's glow and energizes the skin.
  • VitaFirm Complex which has high-performance botanical peptides that help firm and reduce moisture loss in skin.
A note on the Active Veil ($25) pictured over there on the right, you can also use this after moisturizer and before foundation as a primer and then again at the end to set everything. The active veil also has an SPF 18, so you can also apply it to the neck and chest area for a little extra sun protection. I love the Active Veil. On those days when I don't feel like putting all of my normal makeup on, I put just this on and I feel great.

The Active Mineral Foundation ($30) pictured on the left, has 4 different shades to try. I thought it went on really well. Very smooth and didn't look like I had powder all over my face. I did use a primer before I put anything on and I have found that helps the makeup stick around all day. I also go back over any imperfections with the concealer brush ($20) and little bit of the foundation and it works really well as a concealer. I have a broken capillary under one eye and you would never know it when I use this makeup, same goes for any under eye circles.

The Mineral Glow ($25) pictured on the right, complements all skin tones and skin types. And is applied just like you would bronzer. And a helpful hint from Christine...a little, teeny, weeny bit goes a long, long, long way. Seriously.

And the best thing about Raw Minerals....their brushes. I love them. I find myself using their Foundation Brush even when I use other mineral makeup. They fit right in with my Bobbi Brown brushes. AND they are eco-friendly.

If you are looking for a mineral makeup to try I would consider buying this one. For more information or to purchase them for yourself, please visit rawbeauty.com. Okay, I think that is about all I can say for Raw Minerals, at least for now. I have a few other products for them, but I will save them for another day.

creme de coco masque

Bumble and Bumble has a new companion for the much loved Creme de Coco Shampoo and Conditioner. Meet Creme de Coco Masque ($24).

Jenn and I are both interested in trying out this masque. We have both heard really good things about it. I just recently started using another masque, so I am curious to see if this one truly works on all hair types.

It contains coconut oil, which Bumble and Bumble has
taken one step further with a new, breakthrough Japanese technology – a coconut and vegetable derived base that Bumble and Bumble is the first to use. They also included mango, shea and murumuru butters, tropical oils and botanical extracts. It is suppose to moisturize all hair types.

Bb.Stylists recommend applying a generous amount of Creme de Coco Masque through clean, wet hair. Rinse after seven minutes or more and be amazed by the slip-through-your-fingers silkiness. Creme de Coco Masque is great for all hair types, including the color treated, but ideal for even the dullest or driest of manes. For added treatment benefits, use with heat – wrap in a warm towel or sit in the sunshine and then rinse after seven minutes.

Creme de Coco Masque is available in Bb.Network Salons. To find a salon near you, visit bumbleandbumble.com or call 888.7Bumble to purchase over the phone.

anastasia beverly hills...brow gel

We are both loving this Brow Gel ($21) from Anastasia Beverly Hills.

It's basically a clear gel that contains botanical conditioners and essential oils...and keeps your brows where you brush them.

The gel is also great to use on top of your brow pencil and powder.

The best part is that it isn't all goopy and glisten-y...meaning your brows won't look all shiny and weird.

Just groomed and put together.

Which is the way we like it.
