stila pearl shimmer gloss

I am loving all that is Stila lately. I have gone from a couple things that I never use to about 4 or 5 things that I can't imagine not having in my life. One of my new loves is this little gem right here on the left. It's Stila's Pearl Shimmer Gloss in South Sea Coral ($22). And yes, that is the color of it, but it goes on much lighter with a nice level of shimmer - nothing too crazy. I think they say it's a soft, shimmering peach...which is pretty much exactly how I would describe it.

There are 4 different shades of the Pearl Shimmer Gloss and all are Limited Edition, so you need to get your hands on these ASAP. One of the colors (Pearl Kitten) can only be found at Sephora, but the other 3 you can find anywhere Stila is sold. They are perfect for the new Spring/Summer colors.

As with most glosses, it doesn't last nearly as long some, but it does last longer than others (I'm looking at you Stila Lip Glaze....I still love you though). You can normally find this at stilacosmetics.com but the site is under repair and it will direct you to Sephora. You can also find Stila at Ulta.

kiehl's marvelous mineral mascara

Kiehl’s Since 1851, is introducing Kiehl’s Marvelous Mineral Mascara ($16.50). It comes in either black/brown or black. This just hit stores recently. And I was a little surprised to see a mascara coming out from Kiehl's and was immediately interested in checking it out. And now I have it in black. I just started using it yesterday so I am very early in the reviewing process, but so far I think I like it. It is loaded with various vitamins and other natural products to give you an unique formula that gives lashes natural looking length, volume and a rich, glossy color. Some of the key ingredients are: Acacia Senegal, Jojoba Oil, Aloe Vera, Mineral Pigments, Pro-Vitamin B (Panthenol), Tocopherol (Vitamin E).

Marvelous Mineral Mascara, enriched with mineral pigments for rich color, wraps lashes in instant color and care. Combining volumizing Acacia Senegal with conditioning Jojoba Oil and Aloe Vera. Development of Kiehl’s Marvelous Mineral Mascara was in response to fervent requests from customers. This formula addresses a key customer need for natural looking lashes yet accomplished with a “lash caring” application. The safe, yet gentle formula is hypoallergenic, paraben-free, and fragrance-free. Our ultra-soft brush was carefully designed to be tug-free and extra caring for lashes. And is safe for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers.

This mascara is available at Kiehl’s stores, 1-800-KIEHLS-1 and www.kiehls.com. I plan on providing a full review soon. I just want to try it out a couple more days before I commit to thumbs up or thumbs down....although I believe things are looking up.

giveaway with galvanic spa

This patented, hand-held technology is responsible for an evolution in the beauty industry. It not only treats aging at the source, but provides visible results in one 8-minute session! For more than 50 years, many spa and salon professionals have used gentle galvanic currents in customized treatments to refresh and energize the skin. This treatment is now available to everyone in the comfort and convenience of their own home (and at a much more affordable price)! This Galvanic Spa package comes with a month's supply of treatment gels to use with the spa. Retail Price: $350.00

To be honest, I totally just had to go look up what galvanic was. I am not a big spa person - one massage in my whole 31 years. I loved every second of it but I digress. Here's what I learned: for more than 50 years, spa and salon professionals have used gentle galvanic currents in customized treatments to refresh and energize the skin. These treatments, through a gentle massaging action, help to focus cellular energy and enhance circulation. Apparently there is a pre-treatment with a gel that negatively charged with the Galvanic instrument and the negativity is what drives the gel into the skin, which then binds to the impurities. During the actual treatment, the gel and Galvanic instrument are then positively charged and attracts the negative impurities and draws them out of the skin. Leaving you with radiant, glowing skin....and there is your science lesson for the day.

Well, we happen to have one of these Galvanic Spa II to giveaway, complete with one month of treatment gels. All we ask of you is to head on over to this site: www.maquel.nsedreams.com and then come back here and let us know which other product you would like to see up for a giveaway. Send us an email at beautyinreallifecontests@gmail.com with "Galvanic Spa II Giveaway" in the subject line. Be sure to include your full name and mailing address and the product you would like to see featured in another giveaway.

We will randomly select one winner April 8th at 11m EST. The winners will be announced the next day, Thursday, April 9th.

Alright, just to clarify...One entry per person, duplicate entries will not increase your odds of winning. For this giveaway, only US residents may enter. You have from now until April 8th at 11:00 PM EST to enter.

the lancome blog and a mini-makeover with sandy linter

By now, you've probably heard that Lancome has started their own blog. Called appropriately enough, The Lancôme Blog (thelancomeblog.blogspot.com) it plans to cover all the buzz about the brand...including their hottest products, news about their spokespeople and makeup artists, to what other beauty editors and bloggers are saying about them.

Readers will be able to read about the latest on Anne Hathaway, Kate Winslet, Clive Owen, Daria Werbowy, Elettra Wiedemann, Arlenis Sosa, Aaron De Mey, Sandy Linter plus other makeup artists, models and celebs.

It's written by Kerry Diamond, Lancome's very own vice president for public relations and a former beauty editor herself, other P.R. team members will be pitching in from time to time.

They're also going to be doing some really cool giveaways...and here's one that we're planning on entering ourselves...

Enter to win a mini-makeover with Sandy Linter (see pic below), the celebrity makeup artist and Lancôme Beauty at Every Age expert.

All you have to do is this, head on over to The Lancome Blog and post a question for Sandy. You're then entered in the giveaway!

It's that easy.

What could you win?

Well, one winner will get 15 minutes on the phone with Sandy during which she’ll give specific advice, tips and tricks. Then, Sandy will pick the 10 Lancôme products she thinks are perfect for that person and Lancome will have the products delivered right to the winner’s doorstep!

How cool is that?

Another great part?

The Sandy questions won’t go to waste. They’ll have Sandy answer them in a future post.

The only downfall here is that the contest ends Friday night.

So head on over to thelancomeblog.blogspot.com right now and ask away! If you win, be sure to come back here and let us know how it went!

drugstore.com and the mommy bag

If I was pregnant again or had a baby I would be all over this deal. I can't begin to tell you how many diaper bags I went through trying to find the perfect one. In the end I ended up buying larger handbags and throwing everything in there with no rhyme or reason. Off the top of my head I know there are at least 7 diaper bags/handbags I purchased. Leave it to beauty.com and drugstore.com to come up with the perfect solution. (and an eco-friendly one at that!)

Beauty.com's sister site, drugstore.com has teamed up with fashion designer and new mom, Jenni Kayne, who designed a chic, portable bag filled with eco-friendly products for mom and baby. The stylish Mommy Bag, available for a limited time exclusively at drugstore.com with a purchase of $75 or more, is a roomy canvas pouch that Jenni created as a compact yet practical alternative to a more traditional diaper bag.

Kayne, who welcomed her first child Tanner late last year, wanted to create something large enough to store products for a quick outing and small enough to stash tidily into a stroller or slouchy handbag. The washable, durable bag has elasticized pockets for bottles and snacks and offers a reliable way to keep baby travel basics separate and accessible. “When I was pregnant I was looking at diaper bags and thought there should be more options for busy new moms,” says Kayne. "Diaper bags can be so cumbersome and sometimes when you’re going out for a walk or need to run a quick errand with a baby, a giant bag doesn’t make anything easier.”

This functional, fashionable design by Jenni Kayne is one of many unique incentives for customers to save time and money by shopping on drugstore.com for their health, beauty and household products. Moms will receive the stylish Mommy Bag while taking advantage of the convenient bonus features on drugstore.com including automatic shipping and 5% back, helping them in managing a busy schedule and more time to enjoy with their children.

The Jenni Kayne Mommy Bag is valued at over $50 and comes filled with full and deluxe-sized samples for Mom and Baby, many from the drugstore.com Green and Natural store:

  • Philips Avent Silicone Orthodontic Pacifiers, 0-3 months
  • Philips Avent 4oz/125ml Bottle BPA-Free, 0-3 months
  • Burt’s Bees® Baby Bee® Buttermilk Lotion
  • Belly-bar™ Vanilla Dreams Milkshake
  • Belly-bar™ Baby Needs Chocolate Bar, Chocolate Toffee Crisp
  • Seventh Generation™ Diaper
  • California Baby® Calendula Cream
  • California Baby® Super Sensitive™ Shampoo & Bodywash
  • Earth’s Best TenderCare® Chlorine-Free Diapers & Wipes
  • Earth’s Best TenderCare® Chlorine-Free Baby Wipes Resealable Travel Pack
  • Susan Brown’s Baby™ Moisturizing Hand Sanitizer
So, if you are pregnant, have a baby or know someone who will soon, head on over to drugstore.com and pick one up!

shopsmart magazine...tips for tracking down discontinued beauty products

Alright, we know it's happened to you...you've found the beauty product of your dreams, something that you just adore and can't live without.

Only to find out that it's been discontinued.

Man we hate that.

Well, ShopSmart has come up with some tips that you can use to track down those beloved items.

Read on.

Tip #1 The first place to go to track down a much-missed favorite is the manufacturer:

Call the makeup brand’s customer-service department to ask about leftover inventory, upgraded formulas/names or comparable substitutes.

* Estée Lauder brands: You can find products discontinued in the last 24 months through the company’s Gone but Not Forgotten program; you can buy up to six pieces, depending on availability. Call 800-216-7173 to start your search.
* Almay, Revlon & Ultima II: You can find discontinued products at cosmeticsandmore.com and their affiliated retail outlets (in Arizona, New York, New Jersey, and North Carolina), or call 888-882-5629 to place an order.
* Lancôme, Molton Brown and Nars: These companies sell discontinued items on their sites—Lancome-usa.com, Moltonbrown.com, and Narscosmetics.com—until inventory runs dry. Some brand sites, including Benefitcosmetics.com, Clinique.com, Lancome-usa.com, and Prescriptives.com—feature online alerts, so customers have fair warning when discontinued goods are disappearing.

Tip #2 If the manufacturer is unable to track down an old fave, here are some other sites worth checking out:

* Discount.makeup.com: This subsidiary of Makeup.com sells discontinued beauty products from many brands, including Shiseido and Bare Escentuals.
* Beautyencounter.com: This site sells hard-to-find products from Max Factor, Neutrogena, Goldwell, Sebastian, KMS, and more.
* Vermontcountrystore.com: Its niche is hard-to-find items, and customer service will track down products for which they get a lot of requests, even if the site doesn’t carry them. When an item is no longer manufactured and demand is sufficient, the site buys an original formula and reproduces.
* Threecustom.com: The go-to place for celebrity makeup artists, Three Custom Color specialists can replicate the exact shade and texture of just about any color cosmetic product, including blush, eyeshadow, lipstick, concealer, and foundation. The company has an archive of 9,000 makeup shades dating back to the 1930s, and it will duplicate a hue if you send a dime-size sample.

Tip #3 Still no luck? Here are other places to do makeup research:

* Ebay.com, Amazon.com and Overstock.com: These sites can list discontinued products. Since the goods offered can come from third parties, there’s the risk that a product is old or wasn’t stored or shipped properly, so read the fine print carefully regarding any return policy before ordering.
* Makeupalley.com: You can find in-depth information on tons of products, including discontinued ones, at this social community of beauty-product consumers. You can post a product request on the Swap Board; if another member owns the item, you can negotiate a trade.
* The Fragrance Foundation: For detailed information on just about any fragrance that’s ever existed, go to fragrancefoundation.org and click on Fragrance Directory.

Safety Alert: Your instinct might be to hoard when you find an old beauty favorite but remember that many cosmetics go bad fast once opened. Unopened beauty products and fragrances can last for several years if they are stored properly (in a dark, cool place). The exception is products with an expiration date, such as some acne products and sunscreens, as these have ingredients that might be compromised over time.

You can find all of these tips and more fabulous info in the May 2009 issue of ShopSmart!

mascara: the good, the not too bad and the ugly

Anyone who knows me or has been reading our blog for the last year knows that I cannot live without mascara - ever. Everyone also knows that I am a huge CoverGirl Lash Blast fanatic. About a month ago my LashBlast had reached it's end. I very much wanted to go right out and purchase a new one, but with so many other mascaras in my drawer that have been ignored for a long time, I couldn't justify bringing a new one home.

There have been several that I seem to rotate through and have previously mentioned. But it seems like lately I have been reaching for the same 2 or 3. What are they?

Well, first we'll start with the good - DuWop Lash Venom ($24). It's formula delivers volume, length, and definition. Lash Venom gives instant impact but can also be layered for ultimate drama. You will notice softer, more hydrated lashes after each use. Lash Venom gives your lashes instant fullness and a glossy, jet-black finish. My take on the mascara? It took me a while to try this, why I was hesitant I have no idea, but now that I have, it's my go to everyday mascara. I would say it's a very close 2nd to LashBlast. It goes on really well even though it looks like a mess on the brush. It's very light and my lashes are soft. It definitely adds volume and length. Plus stays put all day, but it's super easy to remove at night. Check out shop.duwop.com for more info.

Next, up is the not too bad - also known as Stila Major Lash Mascara ($8.50). This luxurious cream-based formula adds instant pigment to shine and define. Can be layered for a more dramatic look, keeps lashes soft, and curls on command. The best part there is no flaking and lashes remain large and in charge throughout the day. This is truly a stila favorite. I just started using this one about 2 weeks ago. I had a really bad experience with a different Stila product, so, I'm a little hesitant when trying out the new products. Although, now I do have to say since using this mascara and a pearl shimmer gloss - I am becoming a huge fan of the line. This mascara works really well. I don't really notice much curling going on. It also goes on well and the lashes stay nice and soft. This goes on a lot lighter than some others so if you want a dramatic look either layer this one several times or try a different mascara. This one also stays put all day - no smudging or flaking. It also washes off easily. This would be a great everyday mascara. Plus at $8.50 a tube - you can't pass it up! For more info, check out stilacosmetics.com.

Finally, the ugly - Smashbox Bionic Mascara ($19). You know we rarely flat out rip a product here at BIRL. Most of the time, we'll say how it didn't work for us, but could certainly work for someone else. There have been many times I didn't particular enjoy something, but Jenn loved it or vice versa. I really, really wanted to like this mascara. To be honest, at first I really did like this mascara. It goes on well and the lashes look fantastic. So, what's the problem? Ummm....they look fantastic for about 3 maybe 4 hours. I have never had a mascara literally disappear off my eyelashes. The first time I noticed it I thought I had rubbed my eyes really hard and just not remembered it. I looked in the mirror and my eyelashes looked like they were only about 1/4 inch long, from the rest of the way up the mascara was completely gone - with no trace. There were no smudges, no flaking, no gross black mascara eye boogies - nothing. It was just gone. I thought, "that's weird" and then tried it again. Same thing. So being the optimistic person I am, I even tried it a third time and same thing. I don't know if I got a funky batch or if this mascara is just really good at disappearing. I just don't even know what else to say about this one. I'm guessing there are people out there who use it and love it. I think this is the one that comes in all the Smashbox box sets so it must be popular. I need a mascara I can rely on and not worry if it has all gone away before I even leave the house.

tarte- a perfect whirled natural cheek stain

Lately, I've been on a little spending kick...I blame it totally on the weather and my spring fever.

I'm not exactly spending thousands...or even hundreds for that matter...but I have been buying a few more beauty products than usual.

Just don't tell Big L.

Anyway, this one is my favorite for a simple no-brainer pop of color on the cheeks.

You could probably apply it blindfolded and get the same perfect results every time.

What's great about this tarte stain, is the combo of colors...a coral-pink and a slightly shimmery seashell pink...that are swirled together in the stick.

When you apply the hues to your cheeks and do a little bit of finger blending, the result is a great just blushing look...a perfect little flush on your apples.

Plus the two swirly hues should allow this to work for (almost) everyone.

In addition, it also contains their signature tarte t5 super fruit complex™ known to deliver refining, anti-aging and skin-restorative benefits with each application.

At my advancing age, every little bit helps.

The only thing that I feel is a slight con, is the fact that (to me) it doesn't seem to last as long as other tarte stains that I've tried. But the container is small enough so that you can stash it in your bag and take it with you for on-the-go applications.

Try it for yourself at your local Sephora, or check it out at sephora.com and tartecosmetics.com.

say yes to carrots - the video

While neither Jenn or myself have tried anything from the Yes to Carrots line, we are definitely curious about it and will probably purchase a couple items....all in the name of research of course.

I remember my friend in high school following something she read in a magazine and applied pure carrot juice to her face - the results were awesome....to everyone but her. Her face was a shade of orange that no one should ever even attempt to try. Well, you don't need to worry about that from this line - they take all the great for you ingredients from the carrots and leave the orange color behind. Carrots are one of the best natural sources of Beta-Carotene, a powerful anti-oxidant that helps reduce damage to your skin and hair.

Want more info on the line...follow this link for a cute video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWTd0BMdtvg. This animated over-the-top ode to carrots features an original track from LA country rock group, Zachariah & the Lobos Riders, and celebrates this quirky national holiday. Follow the URL at the end of the video for a little gift - a coupon for $2 off any Yes To Carrots product.

tell us what you think...fergie's and katie's new looks

Alright, I just had to address the new looks a couple of celebs sported late last week.

First up, Fergie...

She traded in her blonde, highlighted hair, that she would generally wear kinda wavy...for a brunette mane that is middle parted and pin straight.

Next up...Katie Holmes...

She went from a short, choppy bob, to a longer layered and wavy look courtesy of some extensions.

Out of the two looks, I'm actually loving Katie's the best. I think that it does something for her face...although I LOVED her first bob with bangs...and suits her the best. Fergie's color isn't a bad choice...but with the cut, I would have liked to seen some more layering and a shorter length. Plus the parted hair and pin straight look just doesn't flatter her very well...even though it's a little harder to tell in this pic.

The question is...what do you think?

Then after you take the poll, let us know what you think of their looks in the comments!

bond no. 9 - brooklyn

Just in time for spring...although, it's actually snowing outside my window right now...Bond No. 9 has crossed the bridge with it’s new eau de parfum, Brooklyn ($145 50ml), a scent that captures the vibe of the fresh and ever changing legendary city within a city.

Brooklyn is a unisex scent with a desirably masculine attitude.

It’s romantic, sexy and distinctive with notes of cardamom, geranium leaves, and cedarwood. Grapefruit and juniper leaves accelerate the scent, while hints of guaiacwood and leather bring in a tender touch.

And for the first time they’ve decorated directly onto the transparent glass of their iconic Bond No. 9 flacon, with the words BROOKLYN and BOND NO. 9 spelled out in a edgy, urban handwritten script in a vivid array of colors (think street art).

Our take?

While we haven't had a chance to try it out yet, the idea of a unisex scent has us intrigued. The bottle itself is just beyond display worthy.

Available at Bond No. 9 NYC boutiques, Saks Fifth Avenue stores, and bondno9.com.

lipstick queen's big bang theory - illusion gloss

Along with the crazy March weather we've been having, it's also been ridiculously windy.

Add that to the fact that I also wear gloss on my lips and it's a recipe for sticky disaster. My hair right now is about chin length, which is just long enough to blow around and get caught up in the gloss on my pucker.

Not good.

I pretty much spend the time pulling hair out of my mouth and/or trying to hide my lips by sucking them in. Kinda weird, but it almost works.

That's what makes this gloss different.

It's not sticky at all, but still delivers that gloss shine that I adore.

The concept behind the product is actually pretty interesting...it's meant to be a lip plumper without the tingly-stinging some find that other plumping glosses have.

So how does it plump?

Each shade has a special ratio of shine to shimmer that works to create the illusion of fuller lips.

Interesting huh?

The other cool part is the container itself, it totally resembles a test tube...allowing you to look all cool-sexy-scientist when you reapply on the go.

Even the box has been upped in the cool factor scale. All Big Bang Theory - Illusion Gloss package illustrations are based on arts and crafts fabric textures and Copernicus and Nan Goldin photographs from the 80’s. Each one was hand drawn by James Bernard, who designs all of Lipstick Queen’s original package designs.

Plus, the gloss is available in the following eight shades:

Time – shimmery golden nude
Expansion – shimmery pale pink
Space – shimmery grey pink
Infinite – shimmery pinky peach
Black Hole – shimmery deep wine
Creation – shimmery rose
Cosmos – shimmery ruby
Energy – shimmery bright red

Big Bang Theory - Illusion Gloss ($20) is available at all Barneys New York stores, Space NK, Henri Bendel and online at lipstickqueen.com.

christine's nail color of the week....opi you don't know jacques

I know, I know....I have been totally slacking on this feature for the blog. Truth be told I have been painting my nails I just have either forgotten to take a picture before it chipped or I didn't like the color and it wouldn't be my "pick of the week".

Well, I am still loving the France Collection from OPI. My latest obsession (since Christmas) has been You Don't Know Jacques. It's a gray/taupe color that I am in love with. And since it's still snowing around here, I still feel comfortable wearing the darker colors, although I think this color could easily transition into Spring. The picture is with 2 coats on and a top coat.

smashbox muse spring 2009 color collection

Channel your inner artist with this new color collection from Smashbox.

Just in for spring 2009, Smashbox has assembled an adorable assortment of colorful goodies...perfect for the warm weather ahead.

We're loving the cases, white background with black splatter paint. The perfect minimalist backdrop to the gorgeous hues tucked away inside.

A couple of the standouts include...

Bionic Mascara in Black Violet ($19) a long-wearing black with a hint of violet peeking out.

Blush Rush in Masterpiece ($24) think warm peachy coral in color...plus a mirrored compact for easy application on the go.

Our fave...the Artist Eye Palette in Muse ($48 seen above left) gives you several colors to choose from...biscuit, chocolate, soft green, dark celery green, light silver-blue, dark blue-grey, sheer lilac, deep orchid, rose copper, and coffee. Perfect for creating a myriad of eye looks.

Love that...but there's more.

Head on over to your local Sephora, Sephora inside JCPenny, Ulta, or Nordstrom to check out the rest of the collection...or try online at smashbox.com.

venus embrace

I'm baaaack!

So, how's it going ladies (and possibly some men)?

It's been absolutely superb here I must say.

Let's see...where to begin, where to begin...

Hmmm. Well, this past Thursday and Friday I suffered through a 48 hour stomach virus that had me feeling like I was literally going to die.

Then Big L guilted me into traveling with him to visit his mother over the weekend.

That
was a fun trip.

I'd rather lie sprawled on the bathroom floor and make friends with the porcelain king than do that again anytime soon.

The only great thing about the trip was the return home.

That's when Big L actually upchucked in the car 3 minutes from home.

Sufficed to say the stomach bug made the rounds through our household thoroughly.

Thanks Toddler Adventure class and parents who don't keep their sick kids home!

Moving on...

One thing I did miss, besides my bed, was this razor...I totally flaked and left it at home (I blame it on the delirium from dehydration).

It delivers the closest shave I've ever had.

So close that this Italian girl can actually skip a day of shaving her legs before the stubble starts to drive my husband nuts...normally I'd have to shave everyday to have legs that smooth.

What's also perfection is the fact that I don't have to smear shaving cream on my legs...I'm really too lazy to do that. That's because of the all around moisture strip that really helps the razor glide across my skin.

Plus...although I hesitate to add this due to jinxing myself...I haven't had one nick yet.

I've seen it around online for about $13 and there's bound to be some sales and some coupons around for you to get it for a bit less.

Head on over to gillettevenus.com for more info and to check out their Closeness Guaranteed promo...which is basically them putting their money where their mouth is.

If you've already tried this and liked it, leave a comment below!

bobbi brown platinum collection

This March, Bobbi introduces her new Platinum Collection- a necessary indulgence for any Bobbi Brown fan! Check out an exclusive online video about the collection and Bobbi’s inspiration here.

I actually saw this collection at Nordstrom's about a week ago and it is really pretty. I made a small purchase and got the Heather Long Wear Cream Eyeshadow. I love it! It goes on lighter than it looks and is buildable so you can make it as dark as you want. I lover her cream shadows...they stay all day long. (side note....click on the pics to view them larger)

The collection features the new limited-edition Platinum Pink Shimmer Brick which comes in a unique metallic silver finish and contains five bars of color that will beautifully highlight cheeks or anywhere you want to add shimmer. The shades included: soft pink, platinum, bright pink, golden coral and rose, can be blended together or used individually.

In addition to the Shimmer Brick, Bobbi also adds new shades to her line of ever popular Long Wear Cream Shadows, Shimmer Lip Glosses and Lip Glosses that reflect this spring’s trend of strong and smoky eyes and glossy, high-shine lips.

Bobbi also introduces her new, limited-edition Shimmering Body Oil which is infused with pink and platinum pearls. Perfect for giving skin a radiant glow, the oil also moisturizes and conditions with a blend of essential oils. Lightly fragranced, the Shimmering Body Oil features a sneak peek of Bobbi’s Party, a new fragrance that will debut Holiday 2009!

The Platinum Collection will be available on counter and from www.bobbibrown.com in March 2009!

kerastase double force controle ultime

I'm generally not a hairspray person.

Don't get me wrong...back in junior high, I pretty much helped to deplete the ozone layer over NJ, with my ridiculous overuse of Aqua Net hairspray.

So it's not like I never used the stuff before.

I just tend to stick to serums, control paste, and other finishing products that don't weigh my hair down, won't make it feel sticky, and won't make it feel stiff.

Then this stuff arrived.

I volunteered to try it and that kinda made Christine laugh at me.

I think her exact words were If it didn't say Kerastase, you would totally not even try it.

And she's right.

What makes this spray different...other than the Kerastase name...is the fact that it will actually make your weak hair stronger.

That's due to something called Ceramides. It also contains UV filters that will protect your color from the harsh rays of the sun.

Which you have to worry about no matter what season it is.

I also like that it doesn't make my hair feel stiff and sticky.

One of my favorite ways to use it is to lift my hair and apply a little at the roots for more lift. I also spray a little on my fingers and do a little spot application where it's needed.

While the price is a little on the splurge side ($36), it's a pretty large can that should last you a while.

Unless of course you want to start expressing your inner 80's junior high schooler.

If that's the case, you're on your own.

clinique redness instant relief mineral powder

I have been using this on and off for about a month now. This being Clinique's new Redness Instant Relief Mineral Powder ($32.50).

I have redness, well, all over my face, but mostly around my nose and chin. This totally takes care of any issues my foundation doesn't. You can apply it under your makeup or over or both. I do apply it under on the days I use my mineral makeup, but on the days I use a liquid foundation, I use it on top. My thinking on that is, if you put a powder on and then a liquid you are asking for cakey-ness. Sometimes I mix it in with the mineral veil at the end. You can also use it throughout the day for touch-ups. I'm not a touch-up kind of person so I haven't tried it for that. Once my makeup is on in the morning that is pretty much how it stays, unless I'm going out later.

The container is ginormous and will last you forever....well, not forever but darn close. The only negative that I found is with the brush. It sheds like no ones business and there is not much to it. I use one of my other brushes for mineral makeup. I actually threw the brush that came with it away.

I got my mom and her friend using this as well. My mom swears that this is possibly the best thing ever invented. She has the same redness issues that I have....I guess I should say I have the same redness as her. Either way, if you have redness from having sensitive skin or even Rosacea, this might just be what you are looking for.....just not the brush.

Here is what Clinique says about the powder:
Unique mineral treatment measurably reduces redness on contact. It's lab-certified. Under its care and cover, visible redness and broken capillaries virtually disappear-instantly and for hours. Patent-pending formula helps skin "keep its cool." Oil-free, talc-free. With anti-bacterial brush. Appropriate for skins with mild-to-moderate Rosacea or reactive redness.

You can find the Redness Instant Relief Mineral Powder at any Clinique counter or online at clinique.com.

pantene's newest spokesperson...padma lakshimi

Recently, Pantene revealed their newest spokesperson...Padma Lakshmi.

She's the representative of their brand new Nature Fusion Collection, which is perfect for those who want to take a more natural approach to haircare without spending an arm and a leg.

The new shampoos contain an advanced Cassia Complex that creates a protective shield to leave hair naturally radiant and stronger against damage. This unique discovery of the multiple beauty benefits of the Cassia plant provides women seeking healthy hair care outstanding performance through a more natural route.

All we know is that they couldn't have chosen a more gorgeous spokesperson.

Her hair is just to-die-for.

Besides, her show, Top Chef, is one of the more addicting reality shows to watch these days. And she can actually cook herself...she's a renowned cookbook author.

Beautiful and talented in the kitchen?

Yeah...we hate her.

something i'm loving...stila convertible color in lilium

This is one of my current faves.

Stila's Covertible Color in Lilium is a flattering sheer wash of believable pink (to me...also has a slight hint of peach) that just melts into my skin and makes it look great.

It literally just looks like you're blushing...not wearing shocking jolts of pink on your cheeks.

Trust me...not pretty.

The creaminess factor also allows this to blend in really well...meaning it goes on smoothly and doesn't look blotchy. Something that can easily happen with other cream blushes.

It's light enough to layer and not look caked-on either.

In fact, you could easily apply this and then add a little bit of complementary powder blush on top if you want.

While the color doesn't last as long as a stain, it worked well enough that I only had to apply it once later in the day.

Try stilacosmetics.com, beauty.com, sephora.com, and your local Ulta to check it out.
