beauty buys under $10 - avon ultra color rich extra plump lipstick

Just releasing this month is Ultra Color Rich Extra Plump Lipstick ($8) from Avon.

This lipstick definitely allows your pout to take center stage through great color and plumping action.

The center core is where all of the magic takes place. It's packed with plumping mojo and intensely hydrating moisturizers.

The lippie smells like cinnamon and you can actually feel your lips tingling when you apply it.

That's so you know the formula is working.

While I must admit, I'm totally not a lipstick wearer...this does deliver on color and it also makes your lips feel soft. I also liked how it went on smoothly even though I didn't apply a balm first.

It's also available in 10 shades:

Apricot Shimmer
Pink Sunset
Blond Ambition
Plump Pink
Caramel Mauve
Rosewood
Coco Plump
Starlet Red
Deep Blush
Winerose

We had the chance to recently participate in a Lip Cast with Avon that featured the fabulous Jillian Dempsey...the celeb makeup artist for Avon.

Dempsey raved about how easily this color went on and gave us her fave shade for the summer months...Caramel Mauve.

To find an Avon e-representative near you, visit shop.avon.com/shop/find_a_rep.asp. You could also call 1-800-FOR-AVON or just visit avon.com.

korres silicone free face primer

We've been on a little bit of a natural kick lately.

Not to worry though, neither one of us is going to be turning full-on granola any time soon...but the latest offerings from some pretty major all-natural brands have us intrigued.

Take this for instance...

Korres Natural Products recently launched the first-ever silicone free primer...turns out it actually sold out in only 6-weeks.

Here's a little description that really has us wanting to test it out...

This innovative natural and organic formula [98.93% natural/ 11.19% out of which organic], based on a blend of soothing natural and botanical ingredients, refines skin texture by reducing redness, uneven or dull skin tones and creates a non oily, silky film, acting as a barrier between skin and makeup revealing a long-lasting radiant skin. Packed with antioxidant, nourishing vitamin E, Jojoba and Sunflower oils and Edelweiss extract. This silky, fast-absorbing formulation acts as a layer, keeping skin elastic and comfortable, while ensuring smooth, long-lasting make-up application.

We were lucky enough to get our hands on a sample and are in the process of testing, so we'll be sure to let you know how it turns out!

Just in case you can't wait and want to try to get your hands on it sooner, log onto korresusa.com to be alerted when it's back in-stock or go to your local Sephora store to pick up a sample!

redken color extend sun collection

Before we left for our family vacation last month, I was worried about what I was going to do with my hair. I knew before we even got there, that we would be in the pool and at the beach everyday. While I love getting a tan (yes, with sunscreen applied frequently), I dread what happens to my hair once chlorine and saltwater enter the picture. Since I have blonde hair, chlorine likes to turn it a lovely shade of green, while the saltwater turns it into a rat nest. I had 3 different shampoo/conditioner combos I was ready to bring and thought it was a bit overkill but I knew what laid ahead.

Well....literally the day before we left, I went over to Jenn's to hang out and talk blog business and we had received Redken's New Color Extend Sun shampoo, conditioner and a leave-in smoother. Jenn let me be the guinea pig for this one. I was really hesitant to bring it with me...I do not have a good track record with Redken and their hair products. There have been one or two I would consider buying again, but for the most part their shampoos weren't right for me.

I owe Redken some credit, I actually like this new line. Not only does it help get rid of the chlorine and salt it also helps to protect highlights, safeguards color and replenishes sun-stressed strands. I really like the shampoo. I didn't use it everyday, but the days where I was in the pool/ocean a lot, I definitely used it. The conditioner I thought for sure would be too heavy on my fine strands, but it detangles well and left my hair feeling really nice and soft. Less is definitely more with this one. I didn't use this every time I used the shampoo, I thought it would be too much. I haven't had a chance to try the Sparkling Shield Leave-in Smoother, but it looks like it has some particles in it to make your hair nice and shiny....I would spray it either right before you jumped in the pool or right after you get out. The Leave-in is suppose to help provide water-resistant protection against UVA/UVB rays, chlorine and minerals while creating a sleek, polished finish. Our pool just opened last weekend, and it's rained almost every day since, but the second it's decent out we will be there and I will have this in my bag with me to try out, especially now that I just got the highlights redone.

I can't seem to find a firm price on any of the three items...looks like each one is somewhere between $12 and $15 depending on where you can find it. I know Ulta carries it, but only in the stores, not online. For more information check out redken.com.

max factor 2000 calorie extreme lash plumper mascara

All I could think of when I saw this mascara is this is the Bizzaro version of Lash Blast.

Know what I mean?

Remember the Super Friends a la Saturday Morning Cartoons via the 70's?

Some episodes featured their Bizarro twins, who were exactly like the Super Friends in every way except that they wore like grey outfits with black accents (or something like that) and were evil.

Well...alright...no...this mascara isn't evil in any way.

It just reminds me of Lash Blast in every way. Both bottles are shaped the same way. The brush is identical but blue instead of orange.

The formula also seems similar, but I really feel that CG's Lash Blast beats this one out by a small margin.

Either way, Max Factor's 2000 Calorie Extreme Lash Plumper Mascara delivers on it's promise to define and plump up my lashes, as well as last throughout the day until I take it off.

A couple of times I did notice a little bit of flaking, but it didn't happen all of the time so I'm not sure what that was about.

The bottom line is this, both are great mascaras and one (CG's Lash Blast) is priced lower than the other.

I'm planning on sticking with Lash Blast myself...but that's just me.

Try maxfactor.com for more info on their new 2000 Calorie Extreme Lash Plumper Mascara.

nutri system challenge....week 1

Eight days ago I started the Nutri-System challenge....and I'll admit it's been a little rough for me. When we were offered to try it, I was very excited and thought it was perfect timing before major swimsuit season and it would finally help me to lose those stubborn 5 pounds I can't seem to make budge. And since Jenn is preggers, I was the lucky one to partake in the month long challenge. So at least once a week I will update everyone on my progress...and I'm keeping it honest.

I decided to try the Women's Basic Plan (there are 4 different plans...Basic, Silver, Diabetic and Vegetarian). I also opted for the Members Favorite, where they pre-pick all the food. You can also custom select all of your food, but since I had never done anything like this before, I let them send whatever the popular items were. You get 3 meals a day, plus a snack and a dessert.

All 28 days of food showed up on my doorstep in one big box. It was a Friday, so I decided the following Monday would be D-Day (diet day). The food all comes prepackaged, most things you either have to add hot water to or pop in the microwave for about a minute. The only thing you have to add is all the veggies, fruit, dairy and protein. You get a book where you check off each item for each meal and write in what you have eaten.

So far, I haven't lost much weight, maybe a pound or two. The reason I don't really know yet, is last week was that special time in a girl's life and my weight fluctuates a lot during those few days...(side note....when you are PMSing, it is NOT a good idea to start a diet...I craved chocolate the whole week and was not a happy camper).

The actual food has been interesting. Everything is very loaded with protein, so I feel full before I finish. I have had a couple items I have enjoyed and a couple I rather forget about. But to it's credit, it very quickly made me realize a few things: I don't eat enough fruit and veggies, my portion control was really out of whack, and I usually just had coffee in the mornings until lunch - not a good idea.

Since I said I was going to keep it honest, I totally didn't follow it this weekend. We were out 2 of the 3 days for multiple meals, although I did think twice before ordering and at the party we went to, I totally restrained myself from the insanely delicious catered food, and made sure to have more fruit and veggies than anything else. Today, I am feeling guilty for the weekend so I have rededicated myself to the challenge.

Check back next week for the Week 2 update. Hopefully I will have lost another pound or two!

tarte summer 2009

Even though it's not actually the first day of summer, this weekend definitely makes everyone feel that summer is right around the corner.

One of our fave brands, Tarte, has already released their summer collection for 2009.

Loving pretty much everything I'm seeing.

First off, they're adding a new natural cheek stain to their lineup...this one being a shimmery coral color called eco-cheek.

You know how much I adore their stains.

Another addition that's got my attention is celluFIGHT ($40). It's being billed as a natural anti-cellulite self tanner that my thighs are screaming out for around this time of the year. I mean, really, they will not see sunlight unless they're in check.

It is said to work on all skin tones and is formulated with skinTIGHT complex™ a proprietary anti-cellulite complex that firms and tones skin while improving elasticity.

Plant and bio-nutrient extracts boost cellular metabolism shedding excess fat tissue. Caffeine (green tea extract) helps stimulate blood flow immediately reducing "the orange peel" effect (i.e. dimpling) on problem areas such as waist, hips, thighs and buttocks. This anti-cellulite self-tanner contains clinically-proven antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that prevent the long-term build-up of fat tissue under the skin.

Considering lipo won't be happening anytime soon, and nothing else can give you immediate results...it's something that's worth a shot at least I figure.

I'll be testing this one out and give you the 411, once I've had the chance to see what happens.

Another item that's got my attention is their eyeQuatic waterproof summer essentials set ($35).

It comes with a with a mod headscarf, as well as 3 mermaid-inspired lock & roll creaseless cream & powder shadow duos and a deluxe lights, camera, splashes! waterproof mascara.

Just as an fyi, the lock & roll shade descriptions are...turquoise, citrine, and tanzanite.

All should look insanely perfect with your summertime (faux) glow.

You can find Tarte at tarte.com, Sephora, sephora.com, beauty.com, Henri Bendel, and boutiques nationwide.

beauty buys under $10 - liplicious lip glosses from bath and body works

This is how my mind works.

As soon as I heard the name of this product, I could not get Destiny's Child Bootylicious out of my head.

Seriously.

It's still swimming around in there as I type this.

Anyway...I loves me some lip gloss in a tube and these are just to adorable to pass up.

What makes these so great is that they taste and smell like fruit and give your lips major shine. True, they aren't going to last very long, but they're only $7 each so it's not going to hurt your wallet in the long run.

Oh yeah...they also have Vitamin E and jojoba oils to soften, smooth and condition your lips.

They're available in a lot of different shades and/or flavors, but here's two that are calling my name...

Orange Kiss ($7 left)

Described as a juicy, vibrant coral shade with a sheer, high-shine gloss...with a mouth-watering orange cream flavor

Fruit Punch ($7 seen above)

A vividly vibrant pink that glistens with pink and silver shimmer...uh...hello...love pink and anything that has a little bit of shimmer to it.

The absolute best part is that Liplicious glosses are available at Bath & Body Works and online at bathandbodyworks.com.

Plus, right now, online they're available for buy two get one free.

Who can pass that up?

Oh and in case you haven't started singing Bootylicious yet, here's the video to get you there...enjoy.

Jennifer

clairol natural instincts

I have to admit, it's been a while since I've colored my hair at home.

Mainly for two reasons.

One, I'm hella messy with the application process. Not to say that the applicators they provide aren't great...they are...I'm just ridiculously and bizarrely sloppy when I apply and tend to get drops everywhere.

Two, I've been highlighting my hair lately and would never trust myself to do that at home. Never.

Anyway, that's not to say that I wouldn't ever try coloring at home again.

The ability to avoid making an appointment and getting it done in a salon is very tempting and the amount of money saved is a no-brainer.

I mean if Big L ever found out how much it really cost to maintain the fabulosity of my color, he'd freak.

One of my fave color-at-home products is Clairol Natural Instincts demi-permanent haircolor.

It contains no ammonia and it gradually washes out in about 28 shampoos. It also gives my hair a little more body and makes it feel crazy soft.

That said, here's a couple of tips from the pros at Clairol on how to save money with at-home color through color extension.

*Once you color your hair, make sure you keep it looking fresh by shampooing every other day, or every third day even! When you do shampoo, use products specially formulated for color-treated hair.

My take: Some of my faves are from Kerastase and Pureology...but there are some great drugstore brands by L'Oreal and others that really can maintain the life of your color.

*To save some money and extend your hair color, try a product like Natural Instincts. It is incredibly easy to use and low maintenance because it is non-permanent and you won’t see a visible root line. It’s a great way to boost your hair color in between appointments and blend new growth into your hair color.

If you're starting to notice some gray hairs...ahem, like moi...here's also some gray hair myths and truths that you might find interesting...

Ever wonder if the “myths” you’ve heard about gray hair are really true? Believe it or not, these “facts” are generally false. For starters, gray hair isn’t actually gray at all! When you start to go “gray,” your body is telling your hair follicle to stop producing melanin, the pigment that gives hair its color. These strands are actually colorless or transparent and may look gray, white, silver or even yellow to the eye.

Gray hair is a sign of old age

Fiction: First grays can appear at any age, but on average, women begin going gray at age 34.

Coloring your hair makes it more gray

Fiction: Coloring your hair does not cause additional gray hairs. Hair color will blend or fully cover the grays you currently have. Natural Instincts provides a healthier way to blend away your grays and gives beautiful, natural looking color and shine.

All gray hair grows in coarse and wiry

Fiction: When you notice that first gray, it is most likely a coarse, wiry hair sticking out of your head. It just happens to be the gray hair you see first because it’s so different. In reality your hair grows at all different thickness.

Your hair can return to its natural color even after going gray

Fiction: Once a strand loses its color, it will never return.

If you pluck one gray hair, two more will grow in its place.

Fiction: Your body grows gray hairs one by one. If you pull one gray hair it will be replaced by a gray hair in the exact same spot.

A shocking or stressful event can cause you to go gray.

Fact: While there are many conflicting arguments over this, high stress or shocking events have been known to cause hair to change to gray.

Thanks to the team at Clairol for these tips and gray hair myths! Although I am dying a little inside with every gray hair I find...it's reassuring to know that I can just cover those suckers up with some demi-permanent color.

For more info on Clairol's Natural Instincts, head on over to clairol.com/naturalinstincts. You can also find it at any Target, Walmart, CVS, and local grocery stores.

dolce and gabbana light blue

A stunning perfume, overwhelming and irresistible like the joy of living. Surprising and colored: the liveliness of Sicilian citron, the happiness of Granny Smith apple, the spontaneity of bluebells. Feminine and resolute: the intensity of jasmine, the freshness of bamboo, the charm of white rose. Deep and true: the character of cedarwood, the fullness of amber, the embrace of musk.

Did you get all of that?

First, let me apologize for the late post....my little MJ had his first "emergency boo-boo" this morning that required a trip to the dentist...his first trip to the dentist ever, but he is fine. And I'm starting to feel a little better too.

Back to Light Blue...

Do I feel the happiness of Granny Smith apples when I wear it?

Well....no, but I really enjoy wearing it. It is beyond perfect for the summer months. You all know how picky I am about my scents. This is one is light and refreshing and then gets a little heavier, but never overpowering. Did that sound like I know what I'm talking about? Basically, it's light and clean and I could see myself using this as my go-to scent for the next few months.

You can pick this up at most stores that carry fragrances. Sephora has it with free shipping (if you spend over $50). Depending on what size bottle you want, the price ranges from around $45 for the smallest, up to $80 for the biggest bottle.

Next time you pass this in a store, I strongly urge you to stop and take a little sniff...I think you will like it.

5 minutes, 5 questions with joanna schlip*

We were beyond thrilled that the Joanna Schlip agreed to let us interview her for the blog.

She's currently Physicians Formula Celebrity Makeup Artist and has worked with some of the most celebrated people in the entertainment industry.

Plus we love watching her on Style Her Famous, whenever she happens to be on.

Always a nice surprise.

Anyway, here are our questions about summer beauty and here's what she said. Enjoy!

What's the best way to achieve that quintessential California sun-kissed look?

To get a healthy, sun-kissed look without stepping into the sun is to use bronzer! Choose a color two shades deeper than your natural skin tone. I prefer a powder bronzer. The easiest way to apply is with a kabuki or rounded end brush. Start with back and forth movements on your forehead, down to the bridge of your nose, across your chin, under your jaw line and anywhere else that might be showing. Remember to blend! In this case, it is important to choose a blush that is peach, coral or copper.

Sometimes we love to play up our eyes, any tips or tricks to get them to really pop?

A) Color...Color...Color. Draw attention to your eyes by using a lavender wash. There is nothing more beautiful and it complements every eye color.

B) When it comes to making your eyes pop lashes can be your best explanation point. Instead of applying one coat, apply two and remember to curl your lashes first. Always use black.

C) Another way to draw attention to your eyes is a sexy, smoky eye. Take a kohl pencil and line the inner wet line and upper and lower lash lines. Smudge, smudge, smudge and voila! And remember, you don't have to stick to black. Try coppers, charcoals, cabernets, purples, and navies – they all look amazing. Keep your lips nude or neutral in color to balance the look.

Do you have any suggestions on how to avoid makeup meltdown during the summer months?

Less is more. So, instead of using a moisturizer and then a foundation, use a tinted moisturizer to get the look you want. As far as color, use a powdered blush, powdered eyeshadows and lip stains with a gloss. This will last even through the hottest of days or nights.

What are the top five beauty products you can't live without?

*Okay, okay...we know...there are only 4 questions here and not five. Well, somehow she only had time to answer 4 questions instead of the usual...so it's really 4 Questions 4 Minutes with Joanna Schlip. Considering that really didn't fit in with our regular title...we just went ahead and left it as it was and provided the cool little asterisk and kind of pointless explanation. Are you happy now?

harry slatkin receives the living legend award

The fabulous Harry Slatkin, he of the amazing home fragrance Slatkin & Co. brand, recently received the “Legends” award from Allure magazine Editor-in-Chief Linda Wells at the American Society of Perfumers Luncheon and 55th Annual Fragrance Symposium at the Manhattan Marriot Marquis on Thursday, May 7th.

The Living Legend award is given to a “unique and talented person who has distinguished him or herself over the years with their body of creative work, their contribution to the fragrance industry and also their contribution to society.” In receiving this award, Mr. Slatkin joins an extraordinary list of past honorees including Oscar de la Renta, Gianni Versace, Oleg Cassini, Karyn Khoury and Estee Lauder.

Allure magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Linda Wells gave a funny and touching speech about Harry saying he was “instrumental in taking a fringe object hidden away in the home department of a department store and moving it front-and-center to the beauty department.” Harry’s speech was humbling and compelling when he said, “it’s a great honor, although I always thought a legend award comes at the end of one’s career, but don’t count me out just yet, I still have a lot of sniffing left to do.”

He also thanked the perfumers in the room for educating him and being a part of the great success that Slatkin & Co. candles have achieved. He paid tribute to his wife of 18 years, Laura Slatkin who co-founded Slatkin & Co. with him and added, “Laura, this award is to be shared 50-50 with you..”.

In place of handing out gift bags at the event, this year the following companies Bath & Body Works, Robertet and Givaudan donated $1,000 to Harry and Laura Slatkin’s New York Center for Autism in recognition of Slatkin’s son, David, who is autistic.

We love his answer to the question below...

With all the success you’ve achieved, what does the Living Legend Award from the American Society of Perfumers mean?

As I was sitting and listening to my dear friend Linda Wells and all the kind words she had to say about me, it was her remarks about the difference I have made in the industry and that the name Slatkin will go down in history for home fragrance that made me very proud. I have made a mark and I did change the industry into a behemoth. People will never live without home scent and I am glad that I have made so many people happy who use my products. And thank goodness it is a Living Legend award and not something in memoriam!

fab gwp from clinique, trina turk, and nordstrom

My mom-in-law will literally wait until her fave brand, Clinique, offers a gwp before getting what she needs.

So that means that if she has to wait until her beloved cleanser and moisturizer almost or actually runs out, so be it.

She'll be so psyched to see this...guaranteed.

Trina Turk and Clinique have paired together again to create a perfect little gwp.

Summer Essentials From Clinique And Trina Turk

Beginning May 20, 2009 and only at Nordstrom, you can pick up this limited-edition cosmetics bag stuffed with Turk's favorite Clinique must-haves.

Is the bag not just to-die?

Inside the bag you'll find seven hand-picked, travel sized, tried-and-true summertime staples:

Lash Doubling Mascara in Black
Different Lipstick in Tenderheart
Blushwear Cream Stick in Rosy Blush
Superfit Makeup (choose from three shades)
Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion
Colour Surge Eye Shadow Duo in Sunburst
Take The Day Off Makeup Remover for Lids, Lashes & Lips

The Trina Turk for Clinique Gift is available free* with any purchase of $25 or more. Considering that it's actually a $65 value, that's not too shabby at all.

Everything is available exclusively at Clinique counters at Nordstrom stores nationwide and nordstrom.com beginning May 20, 2009 through June 6, 2009...I would also assume that it's until supplies last too.

For more information on store locations and your Trina Turk for Clinique, please visit clinique.com and nordstrom.com.

kérastase...it's their treat

Honestly, when are you going to be able to get something...anything...for free these days.

Especially when that free something is courtesy of Kerastase and the value of said free item is valued at over $100.

Just in case you're wondering, this is something that I already took advantage of. I mean, are you kidding me?

Kerastase?

Free treatment and blowdry?

I so made my appointment this morning and I suggest that you do the same asap!

Read on for more info...

Today, over 140,000 consumers nationwide will be invited to visit one of approximately 750 Kérastase Salons participating in this event. On May 20, 2009, Kérastase aficionados will have the opportunity to indulge in a complimentary signature treatment and blow dry at participating salons.

Beginning May 15th, Kérastase will be sending out 150,000 e-vites to clients around the country. Clients will be encouraged to forward the e-vite to friends and family, as this event is for anyone who wants to take advantage of the special offer.

Kérastase will promote Our Treat on their website, kerastase-usa.com , where participating salons will be listed. Clients will make an appointment with the salon of their choice and on May 20th they will bring the printed e-vites to local participating salons to receive their FREE in-salon treatment and blow dry, valued at over $100!

In addition, Mark Garrison Salon in NYC, Maxine Salon in Chicago and Joseph Cozza Salon in San Francisco will be treating clients like true VIPs. They will walk in on a red carpet and receive catering and refreshments upon entering the salon.

You have to make sure that it's at a participating Kérastase Consultant Salon, as not all of them may be doing this.

For salon locations call 877.748.8357 or visit kerastase-usa.com.

Just make sure you do this right away, because when appointments are gone, they're gone. Also, make sure you print out the e-vite to bring with you too!

anne hathaway's new magnifique ad for lancome

I simply adore Anne Hathaway.

Aside from that crazy mess with that ex-fiance of hers a while back, she honestly seems like one of the more put together younger actresses that's out there today.

Plus I love her look.

At this point, you probably know that Anne is the Lancôme ambassador, right? Well she's now being featured in Lancôme's latest commercial for their fabulous fragrance Magnifique...above you'll find a screen shot from the actual commercial.

The new commercial was filmed in March at New York’s most buzzed about nightclub...The Box.

The ad reveals a sexy, confident and dynamic Magnifique woman (Anne!). Anne was styled by fashion maven Rachel Zoe...who I believe is also her own personal stylist too...and worked one-on-one with a choreographer for a week prior to the shoot where more than 100 extras packed the set for the production.

If you have a minute or two to spare, head on over to www.lancome-usa.com/fragrance/magnifique.aspx to check out the commercial in its entirety!

lancome giveaway winner

As Jenn mentioned in the first post about this mascara, Lancôme's Ôscillation Vibrating Powermascara received a 2009 Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) Beauty Insider’s Choice Award in the Prestige Makeup Eye Product category!

The CEW Beauty Insider’s Choice Awards are held each year and winners are determined by members who vote on the industry’s top products that have been deemed the most innovative in their cosmetic category.

In celebration of this honor and courtesy of Lancôme, we had a giveaway one of the Ôscillation mascaras to one lucky winner!

Here's a little more info on the Ôscillation.

It's Lancome's first vibrating mascara, a battery-operated mascara that mimics and perfects the zig-zag motion many women and makeup artists use to apply mascara. The vibrations, or micro-oscillations as they are called, are barely perceptible when holding the wand and feel like a subtle massaging motion when held against the lashes. The wand produces 7,000 micro-oscillations per second. This buzz-worthy product generated waiting lists of over 30,000 beauty arbiters before its launch and remains a best-seller today.

To apply, hold the brush to your lashes and press the button on the wand to activate the oscillation action. The key to the perfect application is to move the brush in a straight, steady and slow manner. Repeat as necessary. Lancôme is the Number One luxury mascara brand worldwide.

Ôscillation can be found at all Lancôme counters across the country and on lancome-usa.com. The suggested retail price...$34.

Now for the winner....

A big congratulations goes out to Leane G.!!!

Check back later today for another giveaway announcement and don't forget to enter our neuLash Giveaway if you haven't already!

la mer the spf 30 uv protecting fluid

Lately, I've become a lot more careful about what I put on my skin.

Before, it could have had some insane chemical in it and I would have been like well will it prevent me from getting wrinkles early? Yes? Heck yeah bring it on!

The original Creme de la Mer still works for me at night, plus it doesn't have anything chemically related that I would need to be afraid of...so that's a major plus.

But that's nighttime and for the daytime heat that will soon be here, I'm going to have to switch to one of the lighter versions.

Either way, La Mer the SPF 30 UV Protecting Fluid ($65) will be something that will be in rotation whenever I use a La Mer moisturizer (or any other moisturizer that doesn't contain an SPF for that matter).

Why?

Well, it has a whopping SPF 30 that protects my skin from the harsh rays of the sun and it provides a great primer-like effect under makeup.

Not greasy at all, the lightweight lotion also (somehow) manages to make my skin look more luminous.

That's never a bad thing.

It's price definitely makes this a bit of a splurge, but something worth checking out.

Try your local Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, or Nordstrom...or try cremedelamer.com for more info.

sunsilk captivating curls

Speaking of fabulously inexpensive haircare, Sunsilk recently unveiled their new Captivating Curls line.

Complete with a Captivating Curls Shampoo and Conditioner...which smells amazing by the way (think peach, gardenias, citrus, and florals)...a De-frizz Leave-in Creme, and a Scrunching Mousse, it's definitely up any curly haired girl's alley.

One of the products that just looks ridiculously adorable in the package is their Captivating Curls Gel and Cream Twist.

This combines the hold of a gel with the conditioning power of a cream...the result, curls that don't feel crunchy.

Plus look of the gel and cream combo in the container leaves me wanting a vanilla twistee cone from Rita's...anyone else?

While neither one of us can attest to its ability to make curly tresses bounce without the frizz...in case you haven't noticed, neither one of us is lucky enough to be blessed with cascading ringlets...from what I've seen peeking around the internet and You Tube, a lot of people love it.

Add to that the fact that each product can be bought for under $5 a piece, it's not going to put a huge dent in your wallet.

Try sunsilk.us for more info on the line.

clinique sun

Some of you may not know, but last week the family and I took a little vacation to the beautiful island of St. Maarten. It was amazing!

I tried to pack as little as possible to avoid my husband's head popping off over the fee for checking bags. I assumed I was going to be wearing little to no makeup while there due to the fact that all my son wanted to do was swim, swim again and then swim some more.

Two items I made sure to pack were from the new Clinique Sun collection. I brought the SPF 30 Face Cream ($17.50) and Rescue Balm with Aloe ($20) (anyone who has ever seen how fair I am, knows this is a necessity - I burn, then tan).

I was a little nervous about the Face Cream, since I'm sensitive to most face products. I started off by using it as my moisturizer, underneath whatever else I put on. It worked really well for that. Poolside/beachside it worked well too, but definitely remember to reapply. I did not breakout from using it and wasn't too greasy or heavy feeling like some sunscreens can be. I think I will continue to use this throughout the summer. Although towards the end of the trip I switched to using my son's Aveeno, but only because it was a higher SPF and I was beyond baked, so I felt I needed more SPF.

The Rescue Balm with Aloe also worked really well. We always travel with a bottle of Aloe so this sounded perfect. Ultra-moisturizing balm with soothing aloe calms sun-exposed skin. Provides a post-sun "repair" to help prevent today's sun exposure from becoming tomorrow’s visible damage. Helps minimize peeling. Suitable for face and body. Oil-free. Non-acnegenic. My husband didn't apply sunscreen one day which apparently was my fault. I put this on his shoulders and back and the next morning he wasn't red at all. I didn't really use this until the end of the trip, when I seriously overdid it. My forearms and my shoulders became neon. Anyway, I applied this whenever they started to feel tight or itchy and I only have one little circle (nickel size) that is peeling and normally by now both shoulders and arms would be completely peeling and gross.

There are a couple other products that I would be interested in checking out as well. There is a Face Cream that comes in SPF 50, that I would probably use more often than the SPF 30. A Body Spray, SPF 45 Protection Stick and a Body Cream in SPFs 15, 30 and 50 round out the collection.

For more info and to purchase these items, check out clinique.com.

redken color extend shampoo and conditioner

Since highlighting my hair...yes, I highlighted my hair and yes, I made sure that it was okay for me to do so while pregnant...I've been kind of switching between different shampoos in my shower.

I love Pureology and adore its hydrating line, but that tends to be a tad too heavy for my hair in the summer months.

Kerastase is always at the top of my go-to shampoo and conditioner combos, but I wanted to try something new to throw in there when I was in the mood.

Then came this...Redken's Color Extend Shampoo and Conditioner (around $16 and $15 each respectfully).

They were actually sitting in my closet just kind of hanging out waiting for me to test them and I just never seemed to get around to it.

So glad I finally gave them a chance.

The shampoo cleans my hair without stripping and the conditioner makes my hair feel soft and silky. After towel drying, I'll just add a touch of my Biosilk serum or their Color Extend Shine Enrich to the mid-shaft of my hair and down, then blow dry.

The result is hair that I keep wanting to run my hands through and protects it against the heat from the blow dryer and (sometimes) flatiron.

In case you're wondering about the scent, it has that Redken product scent that isn't overpowering at all. I wouldn't argue though if Redken ever decided to up the ante and add some yummy fragrance to their line.

If you're looking for some intense hydration, check out their Color Extend Rich Recovery.

It's a deep conditioning treatment that packs a serious dose of moisture. So serious that you might want to avoid this altogether if your hair is on the very fine side. Also, try to remember these words in regards to this stuff...a little goes a long, long way.

You can find more information on Redken products at redken.com as well as find a local salon that carries them. You can also find them at your local Ulta...which generally has insane sales and also has a great return policy.

stila's back!

Because I've been so out of it lately...honestly it's really true what they say about pregnancy brain...I had to read about this on a couple of my favorite blogs first. Namely Beauty Blogging Junkie and Spoiled Pretty.

So thanks ladies.

Anyway, I had to make sure that you guys got the info too, because it's way too big not to share.

Stila is back.

I don't know if you heard that Stila (a fave here for many reasons...one of which is their fab Convertible Colors) was having some trouble and had to put a hiatus on their site. It went up for sale and it was anybody's guess if they would ever come back.

Anywho, apparently some bigwigs bought it and to show some appreciation for everyone hanging in there, they have this on their site...

Not bad huh?

So, make a beeline over to stilacosmetics.com right now and take advantage of this amazing deal!

Happy shopping!

new from prescriptives for summer 2009...exhilarating

We're totally into the new collection for summer 2009 from Prescriptives...Exilarating. Inspired by their incredibly addicting scent, Calyx, it captures the divine ingredients of tropical fruit, citrus, and florals.

Among the new selections, we're loving...

Calyx Sheer Exhilaration
($38.50) a scent that's perfect for the lightness of summer. It's a limited-edition all-over fragrance in a light, refreshing form of the original Calyx scent, with exotic fruits, lush flowers and smooth woods. Plus the bottle is really cute, don't you think?

Limited Edition Exhilarating Lip Gloss ($14.50)has us at hello. First off, who doesn't love a lip gloss? And secondly, the tube is just to graffitied to pass up. Also the shades...mango, pink grapefruit, and guava...just scream summer. The guava flavor of the gloss doesn't hurt either.

Rounding out the collection is another limited-edition product, Exhilarating Lip Color ($17.50), and some new limited-edition shades for the U Pick Eye Color ($14) perfect for your choice palette.

Our suggestion?

Head on over to your local Prescriptives counter or prescriptives.com now to check them out. The probably won't last long.

giveaway with lancôme

Happy Friday!

Have we got something special for you.

First up, some fabulous news...Lancôme's Ôscillation Vibrating Powermascara received a 2009 Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) Beauty Insider’s Choice Award in the Prestige Makeup Eye Product category!

The CEW Beauty Insider’s Choice Awards are held each year and winners are determined by members who vote on the industry’s top products that have been deemed the most innovative in their cosmetic category.

Now the fun part.

In celebration of this honor and courtesy of Lancôme, we are going to give away like one piece of Ôscillation to one lucky winner!

Here's a little detail about the perfection that is
Ôscillation.

To enter the giveaway, send us an email at beautyinreallifecontests@gmail.com with "Lancome Giveaway" in the subject line. Be sure to include your full name and mailing address and your email address.

We will randomly select one winner May 13th at 11pm EST. The winners will be announced the next day, Thursday, May14th.

Alright, just to clarify...One entry per person, duplicate entries will not increase your odds of winning. For this giveaway, only US residents may enter. You have from now until May13th at 11:00 PM EST to enter.

some more hair how-tos from matrix stylist mark townsend

Here's some more hair how-tos from the Costume Gala at the Met.

Loving Ashley Olsen's new hairstyle here and January Jones looks gorgeous as well. I also liked how Matrix Stylist, Mark Townsend (who did both of their hair for the event) left their hair down, but still done for nighttime.

Read on for more info on how he created the looks.

Ashley Olsen
(wearing The Row)

Matrix celebrity stylist Mark Townsend recently cut Ashley's hair into an asymmetrical bob, so for the Met Ball they wanted to leave her hair down. Mark first sprayed Biolage Bodifying Spray Gel in her damp hair and then blowdried it with a Mason Pearson brush. To keep her hair straight and shiny all night, he took three inch sections of hair and sprayed each with Vavoom Gold-Heat Iron In Control, and then ran an FHI Heat flat iron over the hair.

January Jones
(wearing Michael Kors)

“I was inspired to give January a 60's Bardot hairstyle for the Met Ball.” First Mark added Biolage Whipped Volumizing Mousse to her damp hair and then blowdried it with a round brush. Next he took two inch sections of hair, spraying each section with Vavoom Gold-Heat Iron In Volume, and curled the section with a one inch FHI Heat curling iron. After he curled all the hair, Mark brushed out the curls with a Mason Pearson brush and then gave her some height at the crown by backcombing the roots. “I gave her hair a good amount of Vavoom Shaping Hairspray so it would hold all night.”

totally loving...zannclip

There comes a point in your life when you just have to say no to the little girl accessories.

Honestly, nothing looks more bizarre or out of place than a grown woman sporting a teddy bear headband or something like that.

Nothing.

That's what makes these so perfect and age appropriate...I mean even if you're in your 30's you still have the urge to pull your hair back now and then.

Am I right?

I actually had the chance to test out a couple Zannclips and ended up being surprised by how much I liked them.

They look a little like a cross between a spring and a bobby pin, and it's in that structure that makes them work with all types of hair textures and lengths....allowing you to pull your hair back in a lot of different ways.

Check out the video below to see what I mean...

In addition to coming in sizes small, medium, and large, they also come in a 24 karat gold plate and a platinum plate (both seen above).

In case you'd rather be a little more subtle, they also come in shades that will blend in with your hair...think blonde, brown, black, and even a hue called pearl red that might work for the red heads. If you're up for it, there's even some fun shades like grays, blues, greens, white, and a crazy neon pink.

My fave was obviously the brown, but the platinum Zannclip is beginning to call to me.

I tested the small and medium (for my chin length bob) and they were the perfect size to pull back my hair and even pull my growing out bangs to the side. Plus they don't leave a funky dent in my hair like my always-in-my-bag jaw clips.

Daneen over at Spoiled Pretty even slept in hers and woke up to a dent free do.

How's that for fabulous?

Considering everyone is watching their wallet these days, you'll also be glad to know that Zannclips start at $10 for a small color coated one and go up to $23 for a large metal plate. There are also other hair accessories like hair clips and gorgeous beaded french barrettes that really have to be checked out.

Another great deal?

Right now you can purchase any three items and get 20% off at checkout! I didn't see a code and I don't know how long this offer will last, so you might want to head on over there soon to take advantage.

Try zannclip.com for more info or to purchase.

how-to create brooke's waves and rosario's messy chignon

If I hit the lottery tomorrow, I would so start building an entourage.

You know...personal chef, personal trainer, etc...the general people behind every celebrity you see. The best of the best.

Oscar Blandi would sooooo be, on that list.

He is a hair guru extraordinaire who is honestly sincerely gifted with scissors. If you see a celeb with to-die-for hair, chances are he's behind it.

Here's some hair how-tos from Blandi on how he created the looks for the Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 4, 2009 in New York City.

Read on...

Brooke Shields
(wearing Calvin Klein Collection)

With Brooke’s hair, Oscar wanted to keep it very clean. “I decided to give her curls and keep them loose so that the look stayed soft.” When her hair was still wet, he applied his Volumizing Spray to the root and then the Onde Wave Spray all over the hair to really lock in the curl. After drying the hair, he used both a medium and large barrel curling iron throughout. Using two different size barrels prevents the curls from all being the same size and ultimately blending together, so this way we avoid the blending and create more dimension. Once the curls were finished, he gently applied a small amount of Jasmine Oil on the hair to create sheen and sprayed Lacca hairspray all over.

Rosario Dawson
(wearing Diane von Furstenberg)

“For Rosario, I created what I like to call an abstract chignon.” First Oscar blow dried the hair straight and then secured a low pony tail above the nape of the neck. Once the ponytail is set, you add medium and large size plastic rollers to the loose hair (again with both sizes to ensure texture throughout the hair). Then he sprayed Onde Wave Spray while setting the curl make sure the hair takes. Once he pulled out the rollers, it was easy to create a chignon with loose pieces-- you just follow the curve of the hair and begin pinning sections in place with a bobby pin. Feel free to let hair hang and fall as it may and pull out pieces in the front to layer around the face. The final step was to spray the look with Lacca for hold through the night.

Gorgeous...don't you think?

fabulous looks from the met ball and lancome

I swear this event rivals the red carpet at the Oscars.

Monday night at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Vogue’s annual, star-studded Costume Institute gala, gorgeous celebs and models...and their divine gowns...made their entrance in style.

Lancôme actually provided the makeup for a lot of the ladies, including Lancôme ambassador Anne Hathaway, Lancôme spokesmodel Daria Werbowy and Arlenis Sosa, Alek Wek, Du Juan, Michelle Alves and Vanessa Traina.

Of course we have the scoop straight from the makeup artists who created these looks and what they used.

Celebrity makeup artist Daniel Martin did supermodel Michelle Alves’ pretty, natural makeup.

She's the so adorable model in peach.

He accentuated her eyes with Lancôme Color Design Eyeshadow Quad in Haute Sunset, a palette of neutral, peachy and beige shades. To create definition, he lined the eyes with Lancôme Le Crayon Khôl in Noir and added a few coats of Lancôme Ôscillation Mascara in Black.

A dusting of Lancôme Blush Subtil in Miel Glace was applied to the apples of the cheek.

Daniel used Color Design Lipstick in Love It and Color Fever Gloss in Rose Jolie to create a high-shine, pink pout.

Celebrity makeup artist Oslyn Holder worked with supermodel Alek Wek...is she not becoming more and more stunning as the years pass?

I mean really.

First, Oslyn lined the upper lash line with Le Stylo Waterproof in Noir and blended Color Design Eyeshadow in Statuesque and Backstage Pass on the eyelid. To make Alek’s eyes pop, she applied several coats of Lancôme Hypnôse Mascara in Deep Black.

Next, Oslyn added some color to the cheeks using Color Design Cream Blush in Chic Cassis.

She finished the look with Color Fever Gloss in Intense to create a beautiful, deep burgundy pout.

Love.

You can find any of these products at your local Lancome counter, or try lancome-usa.com to purchase them online.

beauty buys under $10 - suave naturals wild cherry blossom body wash

I don't know about you, but there is no way I can ever leave my local Target without spending a minimum of $60...at least.

And I always get the total wrong.

Meaning...as I'm shopping I'm adding everything up in my head....like $23 for pull-ups here, a couple of cheapie shirts for Little L, $12, etc...and I always come up with a different amount than what it actually ends up being.

Every single time.

And I'm always surprised.

Always.

Anyways...lately I've been hitting up my local Target's beauty aisle for anything body related.

Body washes are definitely topping the list and this one should be no exception.

Suave Naturals Wild Cherry Blossom Body Wash
($2.50) smells a-mazing and lathers up like a dream.

Some things I'm loving about this body wash?

It's infused with a blend of cherry blossom extracts along with skin conditioning Vitamin E and seven out of ten women preferred Suave Naturals Wild Cherry Blossom Body Wash fragrance over another pricier brand.

The only downside is that it won't be available until June 2009...so that means a few more weeks of waiting.

Definitely worth a look-see once it's on shelves though.

5 minutes, 5 questions with liz earle

We recently had the chance to interview Liz Earle, one half of the amazing duo behind Liz Earle Naturally Active Skincare.

Liz herself has an amazing background in the beauty industry. A former beauty editor, author of over 30 books and TV presenter, she's a well-known and respected authority as well as a specialist in botanical ingredients, natural health and well being.

Definitely impressive and gorgeous...I mean did you see the picture of her above?

We were thrilled that she took some time out of her busy schedule to answer some questions for us and give us a little more insight into some of her favorite products.

Enjoy...

What makes your Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser so unique and can all skin types use it?

Interestingly when my business partner; Kim Buckland and I first developed the award-winning Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser neither of us thought the other would like it, as we have such opposite skin types. I suffer from dry eczema prone skin, while Kim has oily problem skin, so when we both got great results from the same cleanser we knew that we had discovered something special. Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser works for all skin types, revealing visible results on normal, dry, sensitive and oily skins, helping to take the guesswork out of choosing a skin type specific cleanser. The creamy, plant-oil rich formulation works with the pure muslin cloth provided to purify, soothe and refresh the skin by swiftly removing dead skin cells, environmental pollution and all traces of make-up, instantly revealing fresher, smoother skin.

Why should we go natural with our skincare...what are the benefits?

Our whole philosophy is to create the very best, most effective, safest skincare that we can. To this end, we use high levels of ‘naturally active’ ingredients, such as natural-source vitamin E, borage oil (naturally rich in skin-strengthening GLA), plus purifying and fragrant genuine essential oils. Many years spent researching the more than 30 books that I have written convince me that these natural ingredients are the most potent within the skin. For example, natural sourced vitamin E is close to 3 times more potent than the synthetic variety which is why we use such a lot of the pure, natural type throughout the entire Naturally Active Skincare range. Pure, high-quality natural ingredients are much more expensive than their synthetic counterparts, but the results are beyond compare.

I believe in working with the natural world where possible, not fighting against it. Our skin is a complex, living organ and the very best results come from treating it holistically, with naturally skin-compatible ingredients. As a company, we have only ever used plant oils in our range, preferring to harness the goodness of naturally vitamin-rich plant oils instead of petrochemically derived mineral oils. Plant oils are closest in structure to the skin’s own natural oils and give far better results than synthetic copies which never quite work as well. Furthermore, plant oils are also more sustainable to produce and it is for these reasons that our new Superskin Moisturizer is packed full of potent plant oils.

Some of the most potent skincare ingredients are found in nature, including antioxidant vitamins, anti-bacterial essential oils and anti-inflammatory herbs. Many plant oils are also a rich natural source of essential fatty acids, such as GLA found in evening primrose and borage seed oils, and the omega 3 and 6 EFAs found in cranberry seed extract.

The word ‘natural’ is often over-used in the beauty world and is pretty meaningless really. Natural does not always mean ‘good’ as some of the most poisonous substances on earth (cyanide, arsenic) are natural!

Liz Earle Naturally Active Skincare is much more than just a ‘natural’ brand. Our company policy is to source the best ingredients. This means that we take each ingredient individually and investigate the best source. We take many factors into account (such as the country where it is grown, availability and sustainability) as this allows us to find the best sources. We try, wherever possible, to work with small growers and they may not always be part of a certification scheme. We will buy organically grown ingredients from suppliers without certification as long as we have a close relationship with them and are satisfied that they conform to our requirements. We are not driven by the desire simply to be a ‘natural’ range, but the best range.

When should you start a skincare routine (ideally)?

I would recommend starting a skincare routine before the onset of adolescence as teenage years are a time of change – and this is especially true for your skin.

To give skin the best start the basic products needed are a cleanser, toner and daytime moisturizer. Thorough cleansing is essential, a minute’s massage with a creamy cleanser wiped off with a clean muslin cloth or flannel, wrung out in warm water, is all you need. Choose a simple range that you enjoy and stick with it – chopping and changing may provoke your skin. My advice is always to treat angry, inflamed skin with great care, using calming and soothing ingredients such as natural clays, manuka honey and propolis.

Okay...I've got a nasty pimple (or two or three) what's the best way to make it (or them) disappear quickly?

Although tempting to squeeze, spots should be left alone to heal as squeezing can result in painful infection, scars and cross contamination. Twice daily cleansing with a gentle but thorough cleanser, such as Cleanse & Polish will help dislodge daily grime and make up and remove excess oil. Clay-based face masks also work to draw out pimples when applied topically over the affected area. Our Deep Cleansing Mask is a highly concentrated clay mask which helps to eliminate impurities and excess oil, leaving skin balanced, calm and clear. A dab of pure essential oil, such as lavender, can also be particularly healing, either on its own or when combined with vitamin E (squeezed from a capsule).

What are your Top 5 beauty must-haves?

1. Superskin Moisturizer

This rich, luxurious and fragrance-free botanical super cream is fast becoming my ultimate beauty must have. Containing high levels of skin-strengthening GLA and rich in omega-3, Superskin Moisturizer helps prevent moisture loss and improve skin elasticity, leaving my skin visibly smoothed, plumped and replenished. The plant-based formula really does create ‘super skin’ thanks to the antioxidants, rosehip oil and cranberry seed oil. I absolutely always double-check I have at least one jar in my wash bag when travelling - I will not leave home without it!

2. Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser

Our iconic, British beauty essential is the foundation of fabulous skin. Adored by supermodels, make-up artists, beauty connoisseurs and mere mortals alike, this affordable, fuss-free pampering daily treat produces outstanding results for all skins. Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser contains skin-soothing cocoa butter and brightening eucalyptus, and effortlessly cleanses away dead skin cells, environmental pollution and all traces of make up, leaving my skin soft, clean, and radiant.

3.Good food

It’s no surprise that the skin, our largest organ, responds to what we eat. So, keeping it nourished is a must if we want radiant glowing skin – and the good news is that the whole body benefits too. Good food gives us the building blocks for great skin. Food has been a focus for me for many years. I’ve written about it, campaigned for meaningful food labeling and taken a public stand against genetic modification of our basic foods - I am passionate about eating well and the benefits great food has on the skin. Some of the best skin feeders are nuts and seeds, pure salad oils, green leaves and fresh fruits and vegetables.

4. Exercise

Exercise is every bit as important for the skin as good food and a great skincare routine. It increases blood flow, which delivers skin building nutrients and oxygen supplies to the epidermis. The benefits – pink cheeks, sparkling eyes and a radiant glow – are instantly visible. I’m not talking about spending hours in the gym (unless you’ve the time and inclination), but I find that by simply doing enough physical activity to leave me slightly out of breath every day really works to leave my skin glowing and my well-being restored.

5. Me Time

For me, time is the new luxury. I find making a little ‘me time’ at the end of each day a great de-stressing treat. This can be as simple as mixing together a facial massage oil, such as apricot kernel oil, with a calming essential oil such as lavender, and massaging gently into my skin. Simple facial massage that you can perform on yourself at home is not only a great top up between regular professional facials to help combat a dull complexion, but also relieves stresses and strains, leaving both you and your skin feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. Warm a few drops of facial oil between your hands cupping them over your nose and face (not touching skin), take 3 deep breaths and inhale your oil to de-stress and calm before massaging into your skin. My favorite facial oil is Superskin Concentrate. This super intense aromatic blend of 100% pure plant oils is a rich, restoring treat for all skin types, with softening argan and organic rosehip oils, soothing neroli, lavender and chamomile essential oils plus protective natural source vitamin E. Taking some time for yourself doesn’t cost the earth and can make all the difference to both your skin and your psyche.

laura mercier satinee creme eye colour

I have always been a fan of creme (or is it cream...I can never figure that out) eye shadows.

Love them for their ease of use and the fact that I can use fingers or brushes to achieve the look I want.

I had the chance to check out Laura Mercier Satinee Creme Eye Color in Stone Suede ($22) which is described as a steely blue-grey kinda color...but to me there's also a little hint of a light brown-ish taupe shade.

The way to use it is to dispense a little of the product (trust me a little goes a long way) on the back of your hand and use a brush (or your fingers) to apply.

The trick I've found is to blend fast, as it sets up pretty quickly. You can always go back in and layer more, but I go for a nice, sheer wash of color on the lid. It's perfect and very casual-mommy-chic for daytime.

Try lauramercier.com or your local Mercier counter for more info or to purchase.

the lip scrub and the lip slip by sara happ

I was just reading about this in one of my magazines and now I can't remember which one featured it.

The Lip Scrub by Sara Happ ($24) is apparently the product of choice for many a celeb. Using natural ingredients, it takes away the flaky skin on your lips and turns them into a much more kissable pout.

Essential for doing away with winter dryness.

Another fave of the celebrity circuit...

Made with crushed pearl and infused with sweet almond, jojoba & macadamia nut oils, it's meant to be used after exfoliating...but I would imagine it would be a treat to slather this on anytime.

Both come in adorable little pots...fyi I love a potted balm (sorry all you balm in a pot haters)...and are boxed inside a sweet little package with a satin bow.

I'm telling you...too cute.

The best part is that you can buy both of these on amazon.com/beauty. Great for me because it's insanely convenient, as I'm on Amazon like every other day.

Isn't everyone?

While I haven't tried either of these just yet, they're definitely on my wish list. Just another reason to love that which is Amazon.

fight the germies with bath and body works' anti-bacterial collection

So, are you about as freaked out as we are in regards to this Swine Flu epidemic?

This just came into our inbox and we wanted to pass these tips along to you. Being each of us have toddlers in our lives and I have one on the way, we're fanatical about using anti-bacterial anything.

The best part about Bath and Body Works anti-bacterial goodies, is that they smell great while doing their job.

What's not to love about that.

Plus if you head on over to your local Bath and Body Works, or bathandbodyworks.com right now, they're having some specials on their anti-bacterial collections that are really sweet.

Be sure to check them out after reading what's below...

Protecting yourself from the germies with Bath and Body Works

As this week’s headlines have made it all too clear, you can never be too careful when it comes to protecting yourself against flu outbreaks. What’s the number one way to prevent the spread of illness? Frequent, thorough hand washing! According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the “first and most important” way is to “wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are also effective.” Whether you’re getting off a crowded subway or heading into a restaurant, this simple step is a vital way to protect you and your loved ones.

Luckily, hand washing doesn’t have to be clinical to be effective—Bath & Body Works offers an array of anti-bacterial formulas in fresh, appealing fragrances that instantly kill germs and sanitize hands without that alcohol-heavy scent. The largest retailer of anti-bacterial products in America, Bath & Body Works has a formula—and a fragrance—for every need. Available in over 20 scents, including Japanese Cherry Blossom, Cucumber Melon and Sweet Pea, Bath & Body Works’ Anti-Bacterial Deep Cleansing Hand Soaps kills germs and nourishes skin with Aloe Vera, Vitamins B5 and E and gently exfoliates with cleansing beads, making deep cleaning a pleasant experience.

When you’re on the go, you can stop into any Bath & Body Works location to wash your hands with an aromatic anti-bacterial soap—no purchase necessary. Every store has its own sink to make cleansing a snap. When you’re stuck somewhere without a sink, Bath & Body Works’ travel-sized Anti-bacterial Deep Cleansing PocketBac hand sanitizer lets you instantly cleanse hands with natural ingredients and has powerful germ killers that kill 99.99 percent of the most common germs that may cause illness. In scents like Coconut Lime Verbena, Nectarine Mint and Midnight Pomegranate, PocketBac leaves hands smelling as fresh as they feel. Plus, you can skip the clinical scent...so be sure to stock up with a PocketBac to keep in your car, purse, at the gym, in your schoolbag or at home.
Stay safe and protect yourself against airborne illness with the following hand washing tips from Bath & Body Works:

How To Properly Wash Hands:

· Wet your hands with warm clean running water and apply soap

· Work up a good lather & scrub for at least 20 seconds (try singing the Happy Birthday song twice)

· Wash between your fingers, nails and the top of your hands

· Rinse hands well under running water for another 10 seconds

· Dry your hands using a paper towel or air dryer

· If soap and water is not available, use an alcohol based hand sanitizer like Bath & Body Works Anti-bacterial PocketBac. Apply product to palm of one hand, rub hands together and apply product all over surfaces of hands and fingers until dry.

When To Wash Hands:

Because hands are a frequent transmission route for infections that enter the body through the nose, eyes and mouth, avoiding contact with the face and practicing proper hand hygiene are crucial.

Wash hands before:

· Engaging in any activity that involves hand-to-mouth contact

· Treating a cut or coming into contact with any other bodily fluid

Wash hands after:

· Being in a public place where disease can spread easily, from restaurants to mass transit

· Blowing your nose, coughing, sneezing or touching your eyes

· Coming into contact with anyone who exhibits flu symptoms

Hope this helps and stay healthy!

(Editor's Note: Basically, according to recent info from the CDC, it is important to wash your hands with soap and water and hand sanitizers might be helpful to use on the go (as what was written in the above article). They do not mention that you need to use antibacterial soaps, just regular soap in general. Purell has also mentioned in the press that their hand sanitizers do not specifically protect against the Swine Flu.
It is by our own choice that we like/prefer to use antibacterial products for ourselves and our families. Whether or not you choose to use them is entirely your own decision. As always, please be a cautious consumer and make decisions based on your own research and advice of your own doctor. Please see our Disclaimer if you have any other questions.)

prescriptives motor-eyes instant action mascara

At first glance, when I saw this, I thought uh-oh.

As in, which-one-of-us-is-going-to-be-the-guinea-pig-and-try-this-and-then-succeed-in poking-the-heck-out-of-our-eye kinda uh-oh.

Clearly you can tell which one of us got to do the review.

All is well though.

I haven't poked myself in the eye and I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon.

I'm really liking this gizmo.

It took me about 3 or 4 times to get it right and get my lashes looking fab, but it was definitely worth it.

Once I got the hang of it, I loved what I saw.

Defined lashes that had the perfect amount of oomph and lasted pretty much the whole day.

If you've been reading other reviews, you've probably heard mention that the formula is on the drier side.

Definitely true, but essential because you'd probably not get the look you were after....meaning more clumps. This way each of your lashes are defined, so no need to go over with a lash comb.

The only downside is that it's a little on the splurge side at $32, but worth it if your a mascara junkie and/or in the market to test drive something new in the mascara department.

Pick one up on QVC, your local Prescriptives counter, and prescriptives.com.
