anastasia lash lifting mascara

One coat of this exclusive silky, non-clumping, double effect mascara will add full volume thickness and uplifting curl.

That is pretty much true. I have been switching between this Lash Lifting Mascara ($22) from Anastasia and Kiehl's mascara pretty much since I started using them about 3 months ago.

My first thought on this was...."it totally makes since that Anastasia would come out with a mascara. If you get your eyebrows looking good, you need your lashes looking good as well." I know, that's a really long first thought, but that's almost exactly what I thought.

I have noticed if you go over your lashes too many times this will start to clump up but nothing major that a lash comb couldn't fix. It lasts all day and is a perfect mascara for daytime.

You can check it o
ut at anastasia.net and in person at Ulta and Sephora.

beauty buys under $10 - pure silk shave cream by barbasol

Hello all!

I'm back. Well...sorta back at least.

I'm pretty much exhausted from lack of sleep, but excited since we brought our daughter back from the hospital.

Being that I'm going to have to find moments here and there to get down to business and write some posts, they're probably going to be more of the short but sweet variety.

So bear with me whilst I work out the schedules of our newborn, her toddler brother, and the general running of the household.

Anyway....

It's still summer...in case you can't tell by the ridiculous heat that's been going on since forever...and that means that you're probably going to break down and wear some shorts at one point or another.

Something that I try to put off as long as possible honey.

And unless you've adopted some new 70's free thinking Woodstock-y kinda ideals, bare legs equal shaving.

To rid myself of my hairy limbs, I normally just hop in the shower and use the same soap/shower gel that I wash with to shave my legs.

Hey, don't judge me cause I'm lazy.

It's quick, easy, and generally gets the job done free of any major issues.

Lately though, this is something that I've been trying out and I actually like.

Pure Silk Shave Cream by Barbasol (yes, that Barbasol) is a moisturizing cream that contains skin conditioners and emollients to protect your skin while shaving.

The ingredients in each formula work to reduce friction from the razor blade and help you get a smoother, more comfortable shave.

It's also available in six yummy scents...Raspberry Mist, Citrus Zest, Melon Splash, Plumeria, Coconut & Oat Flour, and Peaches & Cream.

I tested the Peaches and Cream.

Not only do I love the smell, I also love how easy it makes shaving in the shower as well as give me a closer shave than my usual soap and water routine.

It's also a major bargain at only $1.79 a can.

How can that not be a great thing?

You can find Pure Silk at walgreens.com and your local drugstore.

to our readers...

So, you may have noticed we have been a little sporadic in our postings lately...

Well, here's the scoop:

Jenn was actually sent to bed rest for about 3 weeks. The little lady decided she still wanted out of there and came 2 weeks early. Both baby and mommy are doing great. But it was a rough couple of weeks until 2 days ago when they finally got to bring the baby home. So, now Jenn is trying to figure out how to recover from a C-section, care for a very energetic 3 year old, and of course, the newest addition.

So, I have been trying to pick up the slack with Jenn out of commission. I'm not doing so well, but I am trying.

With all of that and the fact that in the year and half we have been doing the blog, we have never taken a break, we have decided to take the next week off. Jenn needs to get her routine going and I'm actually going on vacation, where there is no computer. So it comes at a perfect time. We will be back on July 27th.

Until then, if you haven't already...don't forget to enter our NutriSystem Giveaway!! The winner will be announced the 27th. Click here for more info.

Have a wonderful week and thanks for understanding!!

bobbi brown fall nudes collection

“Nude makeup never goes out of style- it’s polished, sophisticated and always looks modern.”- Bobbi Brown

“Nude makeup doesn’t mean monochromatic, barely-there makeup. It means makeup that’s right for your skin,” says Bobbi who has created a new Nudes Collection for Fall.

The Collection includes a couple pieces I can't wait to get my little hands on...

First up is a limited-edition eye palette for fall. The Nude Eye Palette ($60) features eye shadow duos in a sophisticated and universally flattering selection of shades and textures. The eye shadow duos come in our customizable 3 Pan Palette, which can be filled with your choice of any Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow or Blush shades. So, you can customize this this palette for a night out or a day at work, leave in whichever eyeshadow duo you are wearing, pop out the other 2 and pop in a blush and lip gloss for easy touch-ups.

There is also a new shimmer brick to the family...the Nude Shimmer Brick ($40). Featuring five pure pearl pigments in pink, gold, bronze, beige, and caramel, the shades are designed to be blended together to give all skin tones a soft nude, lit from within glow.

I have to admit I have never tried the gel eyeliner, although I know it's one of the best eyeliners out there. It frightens me a little, but this color immediately caught my eye. So maybe I'll give it a whirl after all. Caviar Ink Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner ($21), their best-selling liner now in a rich, deep brown shade.

And finally four new shades of Bobbi’s popular Creamy Lip Color ($22) that compliment the Nude Eye Palette and Nude Shimmer Brick.

All of these products will be available from www.bobbibrown.com and Bobbi Brown counters July 2009. Click on the second picture to view it larger.

nutri system challenge....weeks 3 and 4...sort of (and a giveaway too)

So.....here's the scoop. I was unable to finish the NutriSystem Challenge due to some personal issues. I did the first two weeks and then my darling husband was more than happy to start where I left off.

So here is what Troy has to say about his experience with the NutriSystem Challenge:

"I sit at a desk all day long and find it hard not to continually snack and raid the vending machines. Since I've taken over the NutriSystem from my wife I've actually found it easier to get through the day without snacking as much.

At the beginning of the NutriSystem diet I weighed about 177 lbs. Several weeks later I weigh 177 lbs. During that time, however, I have found that I don't get hunger headaches during the day and I have more energy for a mid day workout.

Surprisingly I've found the meals to be satisfying when coupled with fruit...which makes me realize how little fruit I ate before. Now it (fruit) is integral to my everyday lunch. The other part I like about the system is that I can just grab some stuff and go. I am very forgetful and usually forget to bring food to work. I then go to the cafeteria or hotdog stand. With the system I can store food at work and just bring a few little add on items like fruit or something. I have found almost everything I've tasted to be edible. Its not going to win any food of the year awards but you will enjoy you lunch and not feel like you are being cheated."

From my standpoint, he used to call me and complain about how hungry he was, but he never had time to go get something or he didn't feel like making the long journey to the cafeteria (which did not have the best options). I don't think I have heard him say any of his normal complaints and he comes home every day, very proud of himself and shares what he ate. He hasn't lost any weight but he really didn't have much to lose before he started this. Like he said, he just does the NutriSystem for snacks and lunch and then I usually make dinner. We have been way more aware of making sure to add fruit where ever possible and veggies as well. Although I'm pretty good about making sure there are several at dinner.

So that's out experience with the NutriSystem Challenge and now
2 lucky readers have the opportunity to experience it themselves!! And now NutriSysytem has added another line, the Select Line, that includes a variety of frozen menu items. covergirl simply ageless sculpting blush

Definitely have to get this statement out of the way right now, I adore a cream blush.

I just love how natural an effect you're able to get with a cream based product as opposed to a powder one.

One of the latest products to hit the market from CoverGirl, is their Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush ($11). It combines gorgeous color with a swirl of an Olay Regenerist serum. The serum has a combination of vitamins, skin conditioners and anti-oxidants that are said to help improve skin texture.

The formula also contains SPF 22 and is listed as being dermatologically tested, hypoallergenic, suitable for sensitive skin, and fragrance and oil free so it won’t clog pores.

It literally glides on so smoothly and evenly it's ridiculous. The color I tested, Rich Cinnamon (one of four shades btw) gives my light-medium toned skin a nice sheer shade of peachy-nude.

I tend to apply with my fingers if I'm in a rush, but I could easily use a brush or the provided sponge if I wanted to.

Just add a little at a time to your apples and blend (you can always add more if you need it).

Gorgeous.

The only thing is, like a lot of other cream blushes, it doesn't last for hours on end. You would definitely need to reapply again if you were going for an all-day-long kinda thing.

On the good side, you do get a ginormous amount of product, so it should easily last you many applications.

For more info, try covergirl.com.

bobbi brown news

For the love of Pete, why the heck can't they open one of these near us?

Bobbi Brown Cosmetics brings the “The Bobbi Brown Experience” to life, with the opening of two new free-standing stores in Paris at 1 Bis, Rue des Francs Bourgeois, Le Marais, Paris and in Japan at 3-46 Kita-Aoyama, Minata-ku, Tokyo (seen above).

The Studios are an expression of Bobbi Brown’s unique brand culture, and a way for consumers to discover and enjoy Bobbi’s products and services first-hand.

Community, artistry, and education are the hallmarks of The Studio. To that end, the store’s main design component is a communal artistry table, which creates a warm and welcoming environment for the consumer and others to try products at their own leisure, or if they so choose, get the help of their Makeup Artists. Additional lifestyle and architectural details reflect Bobbi’s approachable but sophisticated aesthetic.

When anyone visits The Studio, they will have the freedom to design their own shopping experience. You'll be able to gather with others at the artistry table to exchange tips and ideas; watch a video of Bobbi’s seasonal inspirations and how-to’s; or choose from a menu of specialized services. The Studio will also offer exclusive, limited edition items on a seasonal basis.

A visit to The Studio will provide consumers with the ultimate immersion into Bobbi Brown Cosmetics’ brand culture.

Here are the key store design features...

Communal Artistry Table: The heart and center of the store. This table invites consumers shopping alone, as well as larger groups. They can test products on their own or enjoy on-the-spot makeup lessons from our Makeup Artists.

Product Wall: Introduces the consumer to key product categories; will be updated regularly, and will include framed inset niche’s for product along with large visuals.

Press/Inspiration Wall: Includes local press placements, as well as pages from Bobbi’s sketchbook and concept diary. This wall introduces consumers to Bobbi’s many facets – makeup artist, entrepreneur, lifestyle expert, philanthropist – and illuminates the inspirations and concepts behind top Bobbi Brown products.

Private Event Space: Part makeup studio, part learning center. This space is ideal for consumers who want a private, more intimate setting for their one-on-one makeup lessons. It can also be used for small events and makeup parties.

The Studio will also give customers the opportunity to receive educational services in both individual and group settings. Makeup applications and lessons can take place at a communal artistry table or in a more private setting.

The Menu of Services in The Paris Studio will include...

VIP Makeup Lesson: The ultimate makeup lesson in a one-on-one setting. Their artists will impart Bobbi's professional tips and techniques and create a skincare and makeup routine tailored to the consumer’s needs and lifestyle. 1 hour.

Makeup Party Workshops: Ideal for corporate groups, professional gatherings, celebrations or a girls' night out. Each woman will receive a personalized makeup lesson and a customized face chart, plus an insider's look at the things that inspire Bobbi. Minimum of 4 people. 1 - 1 1/2 hours.

Special Occasion Beauty: Makeup artists will treat each consumer to a flawless makeup application that's perfect for the big night out - from the prom to a cocktail party. 30 minutes.

Teenage Beauty: Ideal for teens, eighteen and under. Teens will get answers to their burning beauty questions and learn how to be their prettiest. 30 minutes.

Bridal Beauty: Tailor-made for the bride to be. Artists will show women how to look their best from ceremony to reception. 1 hour trial application. 1 hour application day of wedding.

Brow Grooming: Groomed brows instantly add polish. During this session, makeup artists will do a brow shaping and grooming.

True Bobbi Brown addicts are probably dying right now.

As of now, there are 13 free-standing Bobbi Brown stores worldwide – 2 in the US (Belk, North Carolina and Montclair, New Jersey) and 11 overseas.

Apparently the big plan is to have 35 global free-standing stores open by 2012.

Here's hoping they'll bring one around here. We'll try and cross our fingers for one to come your way as well.

loving this...tarte's lights, camera, lashes! 4 in 1 natural mascara

While I may not be a high maintenance kind of gal, I'm certainly not the kind of person you might find camping out in the woods.

Me, a billion bugs, and miles from the nearest electrical outlet? Uh no.

This is about as close to nature as I'll ever get.

Tarte's Lights, Camera, Lashes! 4 in 1 (meaning it will lengthen, curl, give volume, and condition) Natural Mascara ($18) has seen it's share of major rotation since I was given the chance to check it out.

What first got me was the cute little packaging. The faux leather/snakeskin container is just too adorable...and the purple just brings it all together.

I love the brush because it's just the right size for hitting all your lashes and not bringing on the clumps.

The formula provided great definition, enough curling to satisfy me, and volume. But what I noticed right away was the conditioning part...my lashes never felt so soft and flexible.

There was also very little (if at all) smudging going on at the end of the day.

So I really loved that.

Add in the fact that it can do this with natural ingredients you can actually pronounce, I think you have to admit it's pretty great.

As of now it's sold out on the tarte website (tartecosmetics.com), but you should be able to swing by your local Sephora and check it out for yourself.

fall 2009 collection venise de chanel

On counters this month is Chanel's new shades for Fall 2009.

I know, I know, you're just starting to get into summer and you've probably just purchased some self tanner or something like that...but, get ready for the fall collections ladies.

A look seen on the runway models and created by Peter Philips, Global Creative Director of Chanel Makeup, at the 2009/10 Cruise Collection show that were held on the beaches of Venice, Italy.

Think rich sienna, deep rose tones, dusky greys, and greens combined for a modern look that can be softened for day or emboldened come evening.

I'm actually kinda loving the hair here too...sorta Great Gatsby-ish.

New for the collection is Rouge Allure Luminous Satin Lip Colour in Intuitive, a pinkish brown; Clandestine, a rich brick shade; Captive, a classic brown; Amusing, a rosewood tone; Comedia, a true rose; and Instinctive, a perfect pink nude.

Your pout will dazzle with Levres Scintillantes Glossimer in Courtisane, a natural pink, and Arelequin, a glossy gold.

Add some definitition to your mouth with Le Crayon Levres Precision Lip Definer in Praline d’Or, a golden-hued nude.

For eyes it's all about the Les 4 Ombres Quadra Eye Shadow in Murano, a palette with shades of moss, pink and seafoam, and green shimmer.

The latest Irreelle Duo Silky Eyeshadow Duo arrives in Acqua Alta, a pairing of white and grey shadows.

Your brows will look perfectly defined with two new shades of Le Crayon Sourcils Precision Brow Definer, Blond Clair and Cendre Noir.

For some gorgeous cheeks, apply Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Fresque, a subtle peach shade, or Les Tissages De Chanel Blush Duo Tweed Effect in Tweed Sienna, a gorgeous earthy bronze...probably the closest I will ever come to owning something tweed from the house of Chanel.

For all over the face, keep your skin luminous with Poudre Douce Soft Pressed Powder in Pêche Caresse, a soft peach.

Not leaving out your all important digits, Chanel is introducing two new shades of Le Vernis Nail Colour: Intermezzo, a white pearl, and Gondola, a stunning maroon shimmer.

All are available now at Chanel boutiques, department and specialty stores, and on chanel.com.
