This spring, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics is launching a campaign called Pretty Powerful, celebrating Bobbi’s belief that all women possess natural beauty, and with the right tools, are empowered to a higher level of pretty.
The campaign will feature real women, or “Friends of Bobbi,” and their before/after photos, videos and testimonials as the centerpiece content of the campaign, which will live on BobbiBrownCosmetics.com/prettypowerful.
As part of the campaign, Bobbi Brown will be launching a video contest: She wants to hear how you go from Pretty to Powerful using Bobbi Brown Cosmetics. Starting now through February 9th, makeup devotees are invited to share their transformative stories and tips by submitting videos.
From those submissions, 15 finalists will be chosen and sent a personalized selection of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and the new Color Strips collection to create their next Pretty Powerful video submission.
In March, the gallery of Pretty Powerful videos will be open for public voting on BobbiBrownCosmetics.com/prettypowerful.
For every vote cast in the Pretty Powerful contest, Bobbi Brown will donate $1 to Dress for Success, an organization close to Bobbi's heart that provides underprivileged women with interview suits and career development advice.
Bobbi will hand pick the three grand prize winners, who will be flown to New York for a master class and brunch with Bobbi!
The shampoo cleans any buildup out of your hair, but doesn't strip it (due to it's lack of color depleting sulfates) or make it feel dry and brittle.
The conditioner adds softness and hydration without weighing down my hair in the process.
Perfection.
The best part?
Each has a gorgeous, fresh lemony smell...not a yucky Lemon Pledge-y gag-me kinda scent that I h-a-t-e.
While it is on the splurgey side, it's definitely worth a try.
In case you might be a little hesitant to take the plunge, you can pick either of these up at your local Sephora (and sephora.com). That means that you can check them out in person, ask a salesperson for a sample (they will do this without a lot of begging on your part, trust me) and test it out for yourself.
Lancôme’s chic gift-with-purchase promotion is on until this Saturday, January 30th...and it's exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue.
All you have to do is spend $50 on Lancôme goodies and here’s what you'll get: A black mini bowling bag filled with a slew of makeup samples (such as a Color Design eye shadow compact featuring several star shades), Color Design Lipcolor in Pale Lip and the always-popular Définicils Mascara.
Plus...
You can choose your own anti-aging trio, including a day cream, eye cream and serum, from the Rénergie, High Résolution or Absolue Premium βx collections.
Head on over to saks.com to take advantage of this offer asap!
You know who I mean...Heidi Montang or Mustang or Mongag or whatever the hell her name is.
The one with the major plastic surgery?
The one whose face now begs you to go up to it and poke at a cheekbone because you're half expecting her skin to not be skin and instead it's like a wax that crumbles under your finger revealing a metal skeleton because she's not actually a real live person she's actually a robot or something like that?
I mean did you see her interview on Access Hollywood?!
Homegirl has some issues.
She's just.
No.
Moving on.
This actually popped up in my inbox and totally has to do with my Heidi ramblings above...at least a little bit.
Trust me.
It's called iSurgeon and I can't decide if it's the coolest app out there now, or if it's going to make parent groups loose their freaking minds.
Watch the video and you'll see what I mean...
So...what do you think?
Do you think that this is genius, or do you think that this is craziness at its finest?
I caught it about a quarter of the way through and kept flipping back.
Was surprised to see lots of gorgeous looks...I mean I could not get over how GORGEOUS Christina Aguilera looked. Loved her chin-length bob.
But I digress.
One of the makeup looks I fell in love with was Sandra Bullock's.
When I saw her on tv I actually said out loud (to myself fyi...Big L HATES award shows) oooo I love her makeup. I hope I get info on what they used on her in my inbox.
And lo and behold...I did.
So here you go.
All makeup by Chanel. Her makeup artist was Angela Levin.
Levin's beauty inspiration...When I walked into Sandra's room, I saw that she was in an incredibly relaxed, happy and free spirited mood. I wanted her makeup to reflect her serene state of mind!
Well, in case you totally just blew past the title to this post, I'm having a major attack of writer's block.
Basically I'll start to write a post, stare at the screen for about an hour, start clicking around the web, update my cart on Amazon (with products I've yet to buy mind you), watch tv, read a magazine, and so on until major time has elapsed and I'm ready for bed.
Or...
Another thing that's been happening is that I'll start to write a post, about eye cream or something, and then suddenly said post will turn into a long diatribe about (I don't know) some annoying guy that was standing in line in front of me at the grocery store...or some other crazy nonsensical crap.
Then I erase it and can't think of anything else to say about the eye cream because MY MIND IS JUST A BIG PILE OF MUSH.
So.
I've decided to take some time off and get my stuff in order.
So, no posts today or this weekend.
But, I hope to be back on Monday with some better stuff that makes sense and won't leave you staring at the screen, scratching your head and saying WTF??!!!
I use and I adore Bobbi's Hydrating Eye Cream. Because of that, this is totally piquing my interest. This one's chock-full of peptides, natural plant oils and humectants that are said to target wrinkles, dark circles and puffiness. My only question is, can I buy it by the gallon?
How can something that comes in pen form and clicks (as well as twists) to deliver some under-eye brightening not be fabulous? Bobbi basically poured her Tinted Eye Brightener into a portable pen that can deliver some gorgeous concealing on-the-go. Available in eight shades so you should easily find your perfect match too!
A creamy, easily blendable pencil that comes with its own sharpener and is available in five shades. The trick to have it look natural? Use short feathery strokes and then blend with a brow brush.
Introducing two new shades of Brightening Lip Gloss. This sheer, reflective formula wakes up your face and helps create the illusion of fuller lips. Wear alone or on top of your favorite Bobbi Brown lipstick.
You can literally throw anything in it (it's made out of heavyweight canvas that's stain and water resistant) and it totally doesn't matter.
It'll still look good.
I'm using it as an alternative diaper bag, but you could easily use it for work essentials or workout gear or whatever you can think of.
It's that kind of bag.
With three zippered pockets (two on the outside and one on the inside) to choose from, a zippered top, faux leather handles, and an optional shoulder strap that allows you to wear it cross-body style, you can definitely stay organized on the go.
Visit saltboxnyc.com for some other fab patterns...as well as things like wallets, luggage tags, cosmetic bags and more.
In case you don't know already, I'm on Twitter. It's not like major news really...I've been on it for a while and I'm just now trying to "tweet" at least a few times a day.
Not an easy feat btw because I can only do this by computer...not on my cell...which means I pretty much need to be chained to my laptop in order to "tweet" on the regular.
That and I'm trying to figure out how to shorten my tweets as best I can because I normally write everything out word for word...like I do with my text messaging too.
It's times like this that I feel like my mother.
Wait. Where was I going with this?
Oh yeah.
Twitter.
I'm following Ted Gibson on Twitter and he had a link to this video that features Kate Gosselin's new 'do and a little info on what he did.
Check it...
God I love him.
And did he mention the possibility of a new man for Kate?
Watch out guys. Kate's on the prowl.
Anyway...
What do you think of her new look? Do you like it or hate it? Let me know in the comments.
Oh and be sure to check out Ted's site at tedgibsonsalon.com. You can also follow him on Twitter there too!
I recently had the insanely amazing opportunity to interview the ultimate authority on nails, Michelle Mismas.
Her blog, All Lacquered Up, has a beyond-huge following and is filled to the brim with everything you need to know about anythingnail related.
And I mean everything.
Things like nail tips, new nail collections, reviews, nail color comparisons...the list goes on and on.
Did I mention her gorgeous swatches that make it so easy to figure out which shade you are going to run out and buy?
Plus she's super-nice, smart, funny, and beautiful.
You just can't help but love her for taking the time out of her uber busy day to answer a few questions...
1. What nail trends/colors are you just in love with right now?
As the self-proclaimed Queen of Green I'm bursting at the seams to see green nail polish having a moment. From the pale mint greens like Chanel Jade and Essie Mint Candy Apple to the dark blackened greens like Lippmann Don't Tell Mama and butter London British Racing Green I'm one happy green-loving nail polish fanatic. And even though it's not necessarily a crowd pleaser, I'm loving the matte polishes and top coats. I'm all about trying something new and while the matte thing was done back in the 90s, I welcome its return with open arms. Matte top coats are great for creating subtle nail art patterns like polka dots and stripes. Nail art is huge right now but not necessarily my thing, so using matte and glossy top coats to create designs is a fun alternative.
2. Can you give my readers some pointers on getting their manicure to last?
1. Water kills a manicure like there's no tomorrow so please, please, please buy gloves to use when cleaning.
2. Getting the polish to adhere to the nail plate is your biggest battle so make sure it's clean of all oils. A simple swipe of white vinegar or a pH balanced nail prep product, like Seche Prep or OPI Chip Skip, will do the trick.
3. I can't stress this enough, apply thin coats. The thicker the layers of polish, the more prone you are to chipping.
4. Finish each layer of your manicure by swiping the free edge of your nail with base, polish and top coat to help prevent tip wear.
5. Reapply top coat after two days to extend the life of your manicure and restore glossiness.
3. Your nails and hands and cuticles always look fabulous...what's your secret?
Oh it's all smoke and mirrors. A good parlor trick. All kidding aside, I'm fanatical about more than just polish. I'm obsessed with cuticle creams and oils. I carry a Sephora Cuticle Oil Pen everywhere I go. I have them stashed around the house too. They're portable, TSA friendly (for travel) and don't leave you feeling all greasy. At night I like to slather my hands in a rich hand cream, apply a heavy cuticle cream, like Lush Lemony Flutter, and put on cotton gloves to let it all sink in. I honestly don't know if the gloves make that much of a difference, but it keeps my TV remote from being covered in oils.
4. What five beauty products can you not live without?
Oh that's a hard one. I live for lip balms and have been obsessed with Tracy Stern's SalonTea line for a while now. I love makeup but consider mascara and eyeliner my essentials. I can't imagine a mascara better than Estee Lauder's Turbo Lash and I've been involved with MAC's Graphic Brown Fluidline for years. I stockpiled jars of the discontinued color when I ran across it at a CCO (Cosmetic Company Outlet). Is it terrible that I want to wear my signature shade of nail polish, Rescue Beauty Lounge Mismas, like all the time? It's my perfect purple. Oh and New York Streets shampoo and conditioner is my hair's BFF. It's a small, relatively unknown line but so, so magical on my tresses.
5. Can you share a favorite beauty tip?
I don't know how often this applies to most people but it's a fun discovery I made based on a reader request. She had asked if there was a way to remove pen marks from a manicure. I decided to try the same remedy people use for clothes, hairspray, and it totally works. Just spray and buff the marks away with a cotton pad.
I am sooooo applying her tips for a lasting mani, asap.
Plus that Lemony Flutter cream just sounds ridiculously marvelous and perfect don't you think?
And that last trick?
Genius!
Be sure to check out her product picks by clicking on the links above!
editor's note: i have not actually tried any of the above products, nor did i receive anything for reveiw...the picks are actually those of ms. mismas. this is after all an interview. but, because she kicks butt in regards to anything nail related, i plan on purchasing at least three of those products mentioned. really more than three to be honest with you.
